FYI Streetpilot i2,i3 and i5

I was surprised when I noticed the price had been dropping on these units and now I know why.. They have been discontinued! They are terrific basic units and a good deal.

StreetPilot i5

I just realized that the iSeries was discontinued. I just purchased my i5 because I didn't want to pay a lot for an entry level GPS unit.

Hopefully, they continue software updates. Do you know what discontinued means from a support standpoint?

I believe they will continue

I believe they will continue to update these units until they become obsolete however they are pretty stable and probably won't require many updates. Garmin has software for all models they have produced at their site even the obsolete units.

Ray,What is it priced at

Ray,

What is it priced at now? I think with the introduction of the new NUVI 200 series... the i series was doomed...

Discontinued units

With prices dropping across the board and so many new units announced this past year, I am not surprised. I have a c530, that was the next unit up from the i series. I bet it is the next to go because of its size. Now that the Nuvi series is out, there is not much need in the Garmin line for the c530 and 550.

However, I use my c530 on my motorcycle. It has twin speakers in the rear that are clear and loud. The voice bounces off my windshield. I can hear voice commands on the motorcycle. That would not happen with the Nuvi.

I don't agree. The c5xx models offer a better screen and better sound. I could see the c3xx models being dropped as they are the same size but don't offer the screen, SiRF III, and in some cases the reading of POIs from the SD card.

Last I saw was at Walmart

Last I saw was at Walmart for 198.00. There is lots of competition in the 200.00 range and lots of ppl prefer touchscreens but I don't think it's a big drawback.
