1490T Annoying me

Used my new 1490t this past weekend for a trip down to the beach (panama city, FL), We take the back roads as it is quicker and virtually no traffic. But even with avoidance set it was trying to send me down dirt roads left and right and the routes it was trying to give me had I followed them would have added 40 + mins to the length of the trip. My old street pilot did a much better job on routing than this unit. On the way back i setup a route and seemed to take care of the dirt roads, but still a pain for them to show up.

Also while down there I looked for a restaurant on the food list in the gps and it did not show up, no problem I just put in the address and when we got to where the gps said it was, it was about 1/4 of mile off. This was not a new restaurant, my old street pilot found it with no issues in the past. There were several other places as well that were off including my family's beach house address(House has been there since the early 90's). Also on Hwy 79 the gps speed limits were way off, though this road has been under construction for several years so will let that one slide.

Anyone else having issues like this with their 1490t? Hope this does not become a common issue with this unit, Seems to be fine around where I live and work.

Some of it sounds like an

Some of it sounds like an issue with the maps more than the unit. I'll be getting my 1490t tomorrow and testing it out on a trip from Chicago to St. Louis this weekend, so I'll see how accurate it is for me.

Did you select the route

Did you select the route preference and itemized things that you want to avoid?

problem

grin arrow i had the same problem but i found a cure , 1 save your poi to a disk then make sure you have the latest updates , after you load your updates do a hard reset, and then your avoidance's no u turns and no dirt roads that work for me. good luck no problem seance.

Accuracy

I have noticed the same problem with Map accuracy on the Nuvi 1390T, they can be off enough that you can miss a place entirely.

What I started doing is using google maps, Bing, or Map quest and then sending the location to the Garmin unit. None of those locations were off when I did it that way. Easy to do when you know what airport, then hotel and where work is, but not so good when your out and you want something to eat.

I am hoping with all the updates recently that this will get better.

Will give those ideas a try.

Will give those ideas a try. Just annoying that the avoidance's were not working.

New 1390T

I just been using mine for two weeks now, but don't seem to have the problems you are having. Sending me down the correct roads and not taking me of course either.

I did set my avoidance's to no dirt roads or U-turns and the fastest route.
