bmp icons for Nuvi 750

Hello all,

This is my first post. I have a Garmin Nuvi 750.
I have tried everything I know, including Motercycle Mama's helpful and
well written instructions on preparing icons for the POI's. I am still having
problems. I have even thought that I should try a .jpg instead of a .bmp
file designation. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks and best,

You are going to have to zoom in close to see the icon on the map.To check if the bmp file(icon) was installed.Go to one of the selected custom pois that you have the bmp linked to.Don't touch go.Go to bottom of screen and touch map and if installed correctly you will see the icon.

.

Be sure that you are zoomed in far enough on the GPS unit. Try a 2D mode instead of a 3D mode.

Try going to the Custom POI menu list and selecting a POI location and view it on the map. Zoom in.

Do you see see the default gray dot or nothing at all?

If you see the default gray dot, then check the file names on your computer and double check to be sure that you do not have double file extensions (eg Starbucks.bmp.bmp).

Be sure that your file browser is not set to hide the file extension when you are checking.

jsturm,

I have a 750 and on the 2D map view (when not on a route) the icons won't show up unless I'm at a zoom scale of 300ft (or closer) and that's with the map detail set to Normal, more, or most. They seem to behave about the same as the built in pois.

I might be my imagination but I think they show up at farther zooms if I'm on a route and a POI happens to be on that route. For example, I use the rest areas poi file with the alert set at about 2 miles and I'm pretty sure I see the rest area symbol on the screen as soon as I get the alert, regardless of the zoom level.

Same is probably all true for the 3D maps. I don't use those but I have to be zoomed in pretty close to see the icons. The 3D maps don't tell you the zoom scale on a 750 though.

Custom poi icons definitely behave differently than a favorite in terms of icon display.

Miss POI,

Thanks for the welcome. We recently purchased a travel trailer and
I have been downloading all pertinent poi's, icons and sounds. This
is a great web site, if I can make a contribution I will be very happy to.
