765T software update

I was under impression that each software update comes with its own index.
I did 3.90 coupla months ago. Few days back a new update became available in Garmin’s My Dashboard, which I did. When I went in “Tools > Settings > System > About” – it still displays software version 3.90
I was hoping for Garmin’s fix of second letter freeze (I did not experience Traffic issues that were discussed here, but in all fairness I am not a heavy user) – that did not go away.
So what exactly this new update was all about then? Anybody can enlighten me, please?

.

Who knows. I saw that update in myDashboard as well, but not from the WebUpdater prog. I chose not to install it, as the new 2011.10 maps were out, and they (Garmin) were taking away the 3D views with the 'fix'.

WebUpdater vs myDashboard...which should I use?

The update a few days ago was for Portuguese_European_Madalena.vpm...a voice file. Another update was released today for English_American_Jill.vpm...another voice file.

I keep reposting this but I can never seem to find it here...here it is again:

First off, to see what firmware (or "System Software" in Garmin-speak) is on your unit, press Tools>Settings>System>About. The "Software Version" number should be displayed in the upper-right corner.

For example: Software Version 4.60

myDashboard vs WebUpdater

myDashboard does not specifically tell you what is being updated on your GPS nor does it give you the option to select which updates you want to install. It will also always state "Updating Firmware" regardless of what is being updated. Yes, it does update the firmware on the unit but there are also additional updates as well that may also be available for the unit. These additional updates can be GPS Chipset updates, voice updates, help & text file updates, GTM xx updates (FM traffic receiver), GDB 5x updates (MSN Direct receiver), etc. For example, when myDashboard updates voices, it updates ALL the voices on the unit, regardless of if you use them or not which can be quite time consuming to download and install. Using WebUpdater in this case, you can update just the voice you are using rather than all of the voices on the unit.

Using WebUpdater instead of myDashboard will allow the user to see exactly what updates are available for the unit and gives the user the option to update or not update those components.

You can also use a combination of myDashboard along with WebUpdater as I do. Use myDashboard (if you're already in your browser) to see if any updates are available. If there are, switch to WebUpdater to see exactly what updates are available and update those which you are interested in applying to the unit.

You can download WebUpdater from the Garmin website:

Voice Files Fix

They updated the voice files. I got the message and was all excited that 3.90 would go away. Apparently there were stability issues related to the voice files that have been fixed (we hope). Webupdater provides more information.

Thanks!

I followed Mr.DorkusNimrod's (what a scary name! ;o) recommendations above to use WebUpdater and you confirmed it. So I guess I can expect my Emily to now pronounce Expwy - "Expressway" rather than "Ekspooee". We'll see... Although I didn't mind, it actually was kinda fun... smile

you would think almost 3

you would think almost 3 months is enough for them to fix 3.90.

That voice update did

That voice update did actually fix Emily's Ekspooee - she now nicely says "Gaaadineh Expressway"... smile
I havn't checked lately - anyone seen the 3.90 fix yet for 765T?...

Don't

hold your breath. It will be going on 6 months now and they still haven't fixed 3.9 for the 765T. I was told also by Garmin they are having problems with Dashboard. It tells you there is an update when there is none. To me the best way to tell is to use Web updater and not even bother with dashboard.
