765T Transmitter Flaky?

I bought a 765T at Christmas time. Works great and I am very pleased with it. However I have noticed a glitch. Sometimes I just want to listen to mp3s (using the FM transmitter) when I am driving within the city, without using the GPS for directions. Every so often, the FM transmitter refuses to work till I punch in a destination in the GPS. This seems to trigger the FM transmitter to start working, and then the music can be heard too (after the first driving instruction). However, this does not happen all the time - just flaky!
Has anyone noticed this or know the solution to the problem?

Same thing here
I use my 765t daily when I travel to 8-10 customer's a day. I have a 16GB card loaded with MP3s that I listen to along with directions. I've noticed the same thing. If I go into the media player the song is advancing and if I change it to internal speaker I can hear the music. However, it is silent from the FM transmitter until Jill gives me the first directions to my next customer. When she is done talking, the music can be heard. I think it started after either the last or two software updates ago. I know it didn't happen when I first got my 765t in November. Another nice feature from one of the last couple of updates is my 765t will occasionally reboot as I am keying information into the screen. It's not like I unplug it since the "auto shutdown screen" doesn't come on, it just goes black and then a few seconds later comes back on with a several minute wait while it reaquires satellite lock.
Have to give it a try
I haven't used my 765T for playing mp3's so I will have to give it a shot and see what my expierence is.
Same here. Mine also has
Same here. Mine also has started doing the 'reboot' thing every so often after one of the updates. I have however got a solution from Garmin. I plan to try it out today and will let you know if it works. It is a software update.
Sorry
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the last update for the 765T created problems. Sounds like you have found another. The 3.9 firmware update is the culprit based on several posts at the POI factory. I personally had two that I returned because they would not work properly after the 3.9 firmware update. Garmin keeps making promises about a fix but that has been going on for almost six months. In addition to the one here the keyboard and calibration appear to be the biggest problems.

Have had the same issue. I think it relates to the feature that stops MP3 play while driving instructions are given. It seems to get stuck in the pause mp3 mode
I am using 765T almost
I am using 765T almost everyday. And I always play MP3 music via FM transmitter without navigation. I noticed that it got re-booted couple of times while switching to next song. But FM transmitter always works so far.

765T Transmitter
I noticed when the FM is mot working on mine, the mp3 player is still in 'play' mode, not in 'pause'.
I contacted Garmin, and they sent me a link to the 'web-updater' which basically told me I had the latest software already (because I had updated using the 'Communicator'. I reinstalled the firmware anyway and followed their instructions. The very first time I tried using the mp3 player (without the navigation directions) after the update, it did the same thing: no sound.
So Garmin was not much help.
NO more...
This is why Garmin has stopped putting mp3 players and FM transmitters in their newer units. When I tried to use the FM transmitter it was not worth the effort. Their are many posts on this website that talk about the problems. Besides with radios and CD players why would you need to play anything with a GPS. If more time and effort were put into the features a GPS was designed for we would all be better off.

I use the mp3 player in my 660 a lot! No more scanning the dial for radio stations on long trips and no more packing a pile of CD's.
The mp3 player was one of the main reasons I bought the 660 and one of the reasons I'm keeping it.

That is the same reason I bought my C550 and, recently, 765T. Having the MP3 player in the GPS means one less device to bring with me to play MP3's and it is already connected to the automobile power. I have used the FM transmitter but my car radio has a cassette player so I use a cassette audio adapter that plugs into the audio jack on the C550 or 765T. Works very well.
I support the right to keep and arm bears.
You Bet

Ditto, ditto & ditto. I also have a cassette adapter for my older car. Works great compared to the FM transmitter. And I'm not popping a new CD in every whip-stitch. I set the 660's mp3 player to "shuffle" and I never have to be distracted driving by fiddling with CDs.
If Garmin is taking mp3 players out of all their new models, I won't be buying a new one. I'll baby this 660 for as long as I can.

MP3 player on 295W
The newly announced nuvi 295W (which is actually a repurposed Nuviphone G60) has an MP3 player. I like the feature set on the 295W except they didn't include Lane Assist ... too bad.

To each his own..scanning stations is pretty simple. I can load 12 FM stations on both cars and both cars have 6CD changers and MP3 connector for my I Pod. I previously tried the FM transmitter and it was terrible. I guess some just have better luck than others. Mean while I will stick to the 3 choices above. By the way my cell phone also has an mp3 player.Personally I just don't need one in my gps.

Neither of my cars have that many FM stations to pre-select and on long trips I'm driving in areas where I don't know the stations anyway. scan... scan... scan... commercial... scan... scan... scan... commercial... scan... scan... commercial...
One car doesn't have a CD player, the other only has a single CD slot.
I've never owned an iPod.
My cell phone does not have an mp3 player. It doesn't even have a keyboard. I use it to make (gasp) phone calls.
I'll keep my 660 with its mp3 player.
So, I agree with you - to each his own.

Hasn't been a problem on
Hasn't been a problem on mine....
No Problem
I say whatever works best for a person is the way to go. I don't need mp3 on a GPS while others do. It is the same with other features that one person cares about and others don't give a hoot. It doesn't mean one is right and the other wrong...DO WHAT WORKS AND IS BEST FOR YOUR SITUATION!!!!!!
