nuvi 7xx series (says there is no map data)

my freind has a nuvi 7 series ,he bought the 2010 upgrade cd and tried to install it.it he said it erased the previous version and started to install the new version and it made it to 12% then didnt go anymore.now he says thee re is no map data on his unit.does it have to be shipped to garmin or is there a master reset to get the old version back.thanks for you input!no,i dont think he backed it up either.

Best bet would be to contact Garmin support via telephone. These kinds of issues are very difficult if not impossible to resolve in a user forum. Garmin has the ability to remotely connect to your PC/nuvi to resolve these types of issues and get you back up and running.

Are you sure your friend bought a City Navigator North America NT update DVD? As far as I know, updates are done via the internet. If he bought a DVD, he may have bought the full (not update) map version--and paid more for the full map than the update would cost. If so, running the full map program will not overwrite the previous map and the nuvi will have insufficient room for the installation of a 2nd map.
Can you check with him and confirm what he bought and tried to install?
And for the record, Amazon.com sells the onetime update map for about $50 and lifetime map updates for just under $100 most of the time. Both are codes allowing an online update straight from Garmin. Good luck to your friend.
