US Post Office

I just checked my NUVI 265WT for a local post office in Albuquerque NM. I used the "Community" internal directory.

I came up with two locations in Albuquerque. I can count 4 within 3 miles of my location and that doesn't count the ones the NUVI came up with.

I see there is no POI for US Post Offices on the POI Factory site.

Do you know of any POIs that cover US Post Offices on other sites? Or is there someone out there that is working on putting a POI on this site in the future?

Thanks

Same here.

I get the same thing in my area: post offices that were built years ago are missing from the Nuvi database.

There is a zip code POI file I've got on my units. However, it doesn't pinpoint the PO if that's what you're after.

Try seaching POI file list

If you search the POI files you'l find USPS files for various state.

There is a CSV file with 22,411 locations.
I would list it under US Post Offices too, but just scroll down to Post Offices.
or click below.

Problem is:
"Many of these locations are historical and no longer function as a post office."

and:
"Changes
POI Factory obtains this data from other sources, and it's usually updated once or twice per year. Since we don't maintain this data ourselves, we can't accept additions or corrections."

US Post Office

I have downloaded and tried to use the file with over 22,000 locations, but as someone else pointed out, it lists many historical locations which are no longer there. It really is of very little use. I for one would love to have a listing of all current USPS locations as I am a full time RVer who is constantly looking for locations to have my mail sent to as I travel around the country.

I needed a USPS POI the other day. I'm hoping to find an accurate set that I could put in my GPS.

Providing you have mobile internet access, I search using Google Maps.

It's Surprising

It's surprising that Navteq can't keep track of Post Offices. The post office in my town doesn't show up either. It's been there for many years. I've sent in corrections to this effect but they've been ignored. Surely it would be trivial for Navteq to get post offices right.

Even if you have a list it can be tricky

Even if you have a list of Post Office facilities things can be tricky. I followed directions to the nearest Post Office and it guided me to a USPS facility that had no retail/customer area. It was listed like any other post office but was merely a sorting facility through which mail was routed.
