Garmin Nuvi 350

Hey guys. This is my first time here. I have a problem w/ my unit and wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem. I have the Nuvi 350, and I purchased it almost 2mos ago due to 90% business travel. Just recently I get a msg on the screen that says "lost signal". So I turned it off then on and still no signal. I pushed the reset button and turned it back on. Still no signal. Then it displays a msg "Are you indoors right now?" So i hit "no." Then it asks me something like " have you travled a few hundred miles since your last blah blah blah?" I said "yes." Then it tries to locate the satellite signal. After 45min , still nothing so I just didnt use it the past 2 days..What is wrong with it and is there something I can do to fix it???? anyone have this problem?? Any advice would be greatful. Thanks so much.

Sean

Can you try this ? "Hold you

Can you try this ?

"Hold you fingeron the upper right corner of the
Nuvi screen while turning on the Nuvi.
Kee your finger pressed until the popup window appear. Touch Yes to clear all your data."

^^

May be a defective unit

I'd call Garmin Tech Support.

But first, I'd try this: on the main menu screen, hold your finger on the time for longer than 6 seconds, until you enter the diagnostics mode - then, turn the unit off, then back on again and let it lock on to satellites before you move it at all, and then see what happens after that.

Defective Unit - Nuvi 350 ???

Let us know how you make out after trying possible fixes. First time I've heard of this happening. I've had my Nuvi 350 for 5 months and satellite acquisition couldn't be better.

defective unit - nuvi 350

thanks so much guys..im appreciating all the support and advice.. im going to try those suggestions now..ill post my "findings" later... its a weird thing. it all happened one day i was driving down from maryland to virginia. I was on I-495 getting onto I-95 then out of now where an alarm sounds off..then the screen says "lost satellite signal" ... i turn it off for a min or so..turn back on..tries to locate signal. then after 30min it says "are you indoors now? yes or no?" i say no. Then it goes "have you moved a few hundred miles since the last time..blah blah blah ..yes or no?" i said yes...after nothing happened waiting for 45min..i did the procedure again and then i hit "no" for the question if ive moved a hundred miles. nothing happened there..then i hit reset..nothing..stil nothing, but i am going to try those suggestions now..Thanks!!

comment to bluemoon...

bluemoon..i tried what you were talking about but not sure how you want me to do it. if you hold the finger down on the right corner button i dont get a popup screen where i can clear all data. while i hold it down while turned on, on the bottom it reads "pre booting mode"...then after a few more seconds of holding the finger down it says "booting" then it goes to a screen where you have to press the dots. after that part is done (calibration) it goes through the cycle again as if you were to turn it on. no luck in locking in a satellite..any other suggestions?????

Internal Antenna Issue

my nuvi 350 is two hours old. Something definately wrong with it. Seems to be an issue with the antenna connection inside. Either a short or bad connection. I was able after moving and tapping the unit, to get satellites but just a simple movement of the unit and the reception is lost. Frustrating

Sounds defective - I'd take it back to the retailer for an exchange, or call Garmin support and see what they say.

Working on getting a replacement

Luckily it seems as though the replacement policy from where I ordered will be relatively smooth. Frustrating just because so many people with these and so many posts on forums out there and not many problems with the 350. feeling unlucky to have one that is just not right. I suppose it happens but just not fun. Anyways, hope it goes smooth from this point. I have been enjoying just 'learning' on this one and am very impressed with the menu and options. At least as far as my unit is concerned if you are looking for an excellent gps receiver, that doesn't receive...I found it.

Return it.

That sucks.

At least you found out early that it's defective. I'd return it and ask to test out the next unit before leaving the store. Course, if it's mail-out. You hope this was just a fluke. Maybe got rattled during shipment.

Garmin Nuvi 350 & 360, No Signal solution.

I own & operate the electronics repair company, Westek Electronics in Nashville, TN. We repair & refurbish GPS units among other things. We have repaired many nuvi 350/360 units with this issue.

This issue is typically due to a hardware malfunction and cannot be remedied by software upgrades, resetting, etc.

Do this test:

1. Strip a ¼” of a wire twist-tie end (the kind found on bread wrappers) bare exposing the fine wire core.
2. Power up your nuvi 350/360 and confirm that you are not receiving any signal.
3. While still powered on, insert the bare-wire end of the twist-tie into the center female external antenna jack located on the side of the antenna. If done correctly the external antenna jack will firmly hold the twist-tie in place. You cannot damage the unit by doing this.
4. If you now have satellite reception then proceed to step 5. If you still do not have any reception then I have no further advice other than to try all of the update/reset procedures. If all else fails return to Garmin for repair.
5. Once you have established that you have signal using the twist-tie, remove the twist-tie and confirm signal loss.

Your choices to remedy this issue is as follows:

1. Purchase & use an external antenna.
2. Return the GPS to Garmin for repair ($175 if its out-of-warranty). Or,
3. Send your Garmin Nuvi 350/360 to us for repair. We charge $55 (return shipping included) to repair this malfunction. We can also accommodate this repair transaction via eBay in order to provide you with additional reassurance (an addition $5 is added to cover eBay fees, etc. when using this option). Our eBay ID is westek_electronics, feel free to review our feedback ratings. Our repairs are covered by a 30-day warranty. If for some reason we are unable to successfully complete the repair we will return the unit to you and charge only $10 for return shipping. To initiate your repair contact us at westek12@hotmail.com.

Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear of your problems

My 350 is nearly a year old now, haven't had any problems so far.

Nuvi 350 Repaired

Just to let anyone interested know, I did send my Nuvi to Westek Electronics for the $55 repair of the "no satellite" problem. I received the repaired Nuvi back in 3 days and it has been working perfectly ever since (about a one and a half months now). They provided great & fast service at reasonable price. If you are having this same problem I highly recommend you send it to them for repair. Thanks, 36rn

Nuvi Antenna

36RN must work for Westek because every posting Westek makes is followed by 36RN's statement. I've seen this on several forums and fix-it sites.
