2011.10 3D Buildings file info

Which device are you looking at? I have a 765T and all it shows are these two lines:

CN North America NT 2011.10
[1] ALL

No 3D stuff. What am I missing?

I have a 1490T and my map info says the same as Specs does...nothing about 3D maps.

However, I have 3 choices under "Map View" in the settings: Track up, North Up, or 3D. When I choose 3D it does show the map in 3D, but there is no mention of 3D in the Map Info dialog.

Does anyone know if the 3D maps are included as part of the 2011.10 maps for the 1490T?

to have a download that was done the right way the first time! It's not like it wasn't paid for up front!

The CN North America NT 2011.10 3D file has nothing to do with 3D navigation mode. It is a file that contains 3D images of major buildings. This feature is currently supported only on the 7x5 series as far as I know.

Yeah people with Mexico map got lucky - and the bugs that came out later was due to quick fix to remove the free Mexico maps from 2011.10.

Well, I am happy that they fixed the "Cannot unlock maps" error quickly. I don't see myself visiting Mexico anytime soon - not until they fix up the drug cartel stuff, which means never!!

Oh ok, just looked at my 765T after the 3D fix, and it says all that 3D stuff.

Having seen that Garmin fixed the issue with locked 3D maps, I went ahead and downloaded my free 2011.10 update. I also downloaded the "corrected" 149MB IMG file in case I ran into trouble.

I applied the update this morning and noticed that it included the larger 151MB (158,531,584 bytes) 3D image in my Garmin folder. I held my breath and rebooted my 765T. No lock errors! When I go to map info, I see the following:

I do not have the U.S./Canadian 3D subset but the full North America 3D version. My device also includes the Mexican maps. My Nuvi 765T was purchased in mid-March and came with the 3.90 firmware and 2010.10 maps.

I suspect this problem is happening with older 7x5's. From another GPS aficionado's forum, I recall that until about a year ago, Garmin North American GPS's did not include Mexico. The Mexican maps were a separate product. When Garmin started shipping the Mexican maps bundled with North America, instead of as a separate product, older devices would still not include Mexico after an numap update. Your device had to include Mexico originally in order to have the Mexican maps updated. It would appear that the 3D maps issue effects those devices that did not come with Mexico originally. My device shipped with Mexico already on it and it has updated those maps to 2011.10 as well as the 3D maps.

Only the nuvi 7x5 series? Can nuvifone display 3D buildings as well? And if it can't, will it simply display roads with no buildings, or I should buy 2011.10 normal version instead?

There's no need to buy a special map to include or exclude 3D buildings. There's just the one map and it'll install with or without 3D buildings depending on the nuvi or nuvifone model you own; well, actually there are three versions for any new (North America) map:

The full City Navigator NA NT: Buy this if your device doesn't have an older version of the map. For nuvi owners and others that have an earlier City Navigator, not only is this map needlessly more expensive, but it can cause other unfortunate issues that can be avoided with the maps below.

The numaps One-Time update map: Buy this to upgrade your current map to the newest version. Many folks will suggest this is not a good choice given its price. This can be used with the nuvifone.

numaps Lifetime update map: Buy this to receive up to four updates per year for your device that has City Navigator installed. This, too, can be used with the nuvifone.

Hmm, maybe there is another. Does the non-NT City Navigator North America map and update map still exist for the discontinued GPS units that can't use NT? It's also possible to buy City Navigator preinstalled on a SD card, but this is an uncommon upgrade for most US owners.

Someone else will have to answer your nuvifone 3D building question.

My 755T is an older one ... purchased in Oct. 2008, originally with software version 2.50 and first 2009 CNNA map. I was also one of the first purchasers of nuMaps Lifetime and have installed all CNNA updates under this program starting with 2009.10. I got the Mexico maps with 2011.10 including buildings with no unlocking problems. So I don't think the Mexico map discrepancies are related to the age of the unit.

As with Alan, My 765 is also a early model purchased late November 2008 and came pre-installed with firmware v2.20. I also had no "locked map" issues and had all of Mexico installed with map version 2011.10.

I got the usual update (2011.10) along with Mexico as you can see via the link no errors or anything to complain about.
