I wonder if all the problems with downloads, locked 3D maps, and other assorted problems are stemming from the fact Garmin made a mistake in releasing the Mexico Map with this update, and are trying to control the damage.
After all, they did charge $50 for it, and that would be a loss of a revenue stream for them.
What do you think?
Ah...

Ah, that is plausible.
.
I thought it might be. The reason being, the troubles began very soon after the update was released.
The early birds got more than the worm it seems? A freebie map worth $50?
My ROI just paid off!

I dunno...
It would more likely make sense that their servers are being overloaded along with sloppy programming/testing. This would be more likely to be causing the issues.
The map update being offered (or WAS being offered) for EUR map owners is actually a NA mapset...this is just plain sloppy and uncalled for. Seems as if every map update has had it's own individual issues.
I think Garmin finally wised up and included Mexico since it is in NA...after all, the map *is* called "City Navigator North America".

We can hope.
I've burned my 2011.10 map just in case, but a FW update could change the access to it (Mexico Maps).

Then again...
I thought it might be. The reason being, the troubles began very soon after the update was released...
Then again, wouldn't it make more sense for Garmin to have all updates fail once they realized the update was giving users more than Garmin wants us to have? The fact that only the 8xx series sees no update available and that only the 7x5 series has locking issues still leaves Mexico for all the other folks.
So maybe server overload, website-coding or map update file errors are a more likely cause of these issues than Garmin being in damage-control mode for trying to call back the Mexico release as being in the North America map update this week.
.
Like I said, it was a theory... I'm not sure, really.
I just found it a bit odd, that's all. We'll find out soon enough!

2011.10 Maps
Well, they finally DID get the REAL Europe maps in place of the duplicated North American Maps...BUT... the file is corrupt.
Thanks Garmin... another fine job !
Doh!

You'd think that after finally realizing the mistake and uploading the "correct" file to the servers that Garmin would maybe do a test download before making the file live...you'd think that wouldn't you?

Dear xxxxx,
Thank you for contacting Garmin International, I will be happy to help you with the device that you have there and the maps that you are trying to download. I apologize first of all that this is not working for you, we encountered a problem with the downloads for the 800 series of units and we are attempting to correct this as quickly as possible to make the updates available for download for them Unfortunately at this point in time we had to remove the 800 series from eligibility as there was a software interaction that was not working properly. We should have this back up and working for you very soon. Thank you for your patience in this matter as it is greatly appreciated.

The map coverage (see Juggernaut's picture snapshot link) indicates that the map includes DETAILS of Mexico. That is a false ads if it doesn't include a detailed map of Mexico.
.
It *is* a detailed Mexico map.
To see if Mexico has been installed on your unit:
Where To? > Cities > Spell > "Mexico City" > Done. Now select "Mexico City, DF", then press the Map button. If you have map detail displaying, then it's on your unit (it is on my 765). If your unit supports 3D Buildings (7x5 series), they are also included and displayed as well when viewing the immediate Mexico City area.
