2011.10 maps, Canadian copyright on bootup?

Has anyone else noticed this? On bootup there is a Canadian copyright notice which I never had before (used to be US) the 2011.10 update.

:)

If you check under Tools/Settings/System/About/Detailed Maps it says "Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada"
smile

Hmm

I wonder if this would stem from maybe the Goobermint mapping some selected areas, and now Navteq has to pay for the updated info.

And as far as I'm concerned, the Queen has enough money...personal wealth is $16B as of a few years ago.

I've noticed that as well

Yes I have been updating my maps (since 2007) and haven't noticed this before. I reccomend Garmin should make a hockey player be on of the vehicles that we can choose. smile

Good Eyes

Yikes I had to stop and restart 3 or 4 times before I caught the wording on the start-up. For whatever reason I don't seem to have a detailed map reference to bring up a static screen.

Has anyone given Garmin a call to inquire about the change?

Canadian Copyright

I just loaded the 2011.10 update and the first thing I noticed was the Canadian Copyright info displayed after the "loading maps" screen.

I was wondering why they added this also. I mean, Canada was included in the 2010.40 maps and that version didn't have any Canadian Copyright info.

Data from Mapsource

Was able to find this info using Mapsource-

I'm assuming this is the list of companies/ agencies, that Navteq has obtained info from.

Copyright 2009

So when boot my garmin I see the 2009 copyright. Is it safe to say the actual map is still a 2009 version even though the most recent map is called 2011.10?

2009 Navteq becomes 2010 Garmin

Yup... this is well plowed ground.

If I recall correctly the info is that Navteq gathers up their info and Garmin obtains a copy. Garmin then reworks it to their liking to use in their various products. All this takes time- 6 mnths +

IOW a 2009 file from Navteq becomes 2010+ file from Garmin.

The Queen...

Now Navtec can blame the Canadian government for all the years out of date info they have in their Canadian maps.

Canada

Canada has been on all of the North American versions. Not just 2010.40.

NAVTEQ doing some of their own work

I was able to get NAVTEQ to add a new through street in western Mississauga so they are doing some of the work themselves grin

They are probably using mapping info from the Canadian Government for the rural areas.

Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada

I found that also when i wanted to download the nav update at google and found why it is that. the search words are

Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada

And speaking about the update:

The Garmin Communicator Plugin is a free Internet browser plugin that transfers data between your Garmin GPS device and your computer .

Why do I have to download and install windows media player that I don’t want in order to us a plugin to update my Garmin GPS.

What is the work around becase I don’t want to use windows media player?

Depending on the version of

Depending on the version of Windows you are running, you may be required to update Media Player, since all versions of Windows except "N" versions in Europe come with Media Player as part of the default installation. Garmin Communicator uses Media Player libraries instead of custom .DLL files as a matter of convenience for both them and you. There is no way to bypass the media player requirement, unless you want to rewrite Garmin Communicator from scratch.
