Nuvi 1490T routing problem>>>

I created a route using Map Source...saved it (both gpx and gdb at various times) and the sent it to the Nuvi...the route shows absolutely correctly on MS and when I tried to show it on the Nuvi it routes me on highways rather than scenic route I chose...if I click on the file in the Nuvi and tell it to open with MS the route shows as I've drawn it...needless to say...I am thrilled wink

I am coming to the belief that if a man of reasonable intelligence can't figure this out quicklike and in a hurry...it's garmin's fault.

Thoughts if you please.

TIA, Ted

Import it

Did you import it, you have to go to my data, select routes import it, then it should show the modified route. If you just use the favorites and make a route from that it will calculate the one the nuvi wants to.

I did import it, forgot to mention that>>>

oh well...I will keep at it but I have a feeling this is going to be a weird one wink

Not really

All routes are recalculated by the unit when imported. The only way to force the scenic route is to ensure you have enough via points to force the routing.

Or you can just use custom routes.

Sorry, not sure what you mean>>>

Custom Routes?

On my 760 I make custom routes using via waypoints (er, sorry, POIs). In the congested suburb where we live, Nassau County, NY, there are multiple ways to get from one place to another, and the via waypoint is the way to force the nuvi to calculate the route YOU want.

There are multiple bridges to exit Long Island, where we live. If I want to use the Whitestone Bridge, I make a POI on that bridge (northbound to exit) and use it as a via waypoint as part of a route. This forces the nuvi to use the Whitestone Bridge. If the entire route is not to my liking, I keep adding other via waypoints until it is exactly like I want.

It is true and has been discussed in previous threads that routes imported from MapSource or other software are recalculated after being imported to the nuvi.

Route Preferences

I don't know your model nuvi, but just a thought. When you imported the route, did you have "route preferences" set to "quickest", or whatever term the 1490 uses?

nuvi 855. Life is not fair. I don't care who told you it is.

As mention before

The use of points that force the route the way you want is basically what I do most of the time. Fastest or shortest aside it gives you control. Mapsource is cumbersome for me but I started using other map programs to map my way before GPS units. So I still plan my way.

It is a pain

but if you do like agg9900 said and force the routes using waypoints, it will do what you want it to do.
