Need help updating Street Pilot III

Greetings –

Yes, I know the GPS unit is old (so am I), but I’d like to update its map-set to something more current than when it was new. I bought it new when it first came out around 2002, and have used it very successfully ever since then. Last year (2009) I bought the update CityNavigator map CD, but never got around to doing anything with it until now. Garmin says the 2009 version should still work.

So I tried to update the original Map-Source cd map-set (the one that came with it), but haven’t got a clue where to start. Is there some type of ‘File-Loader’ or something I should be using? When I try to run it, it just sits there. My original CD had a lot of files in it, including a bunch of separate .IMG files, but this 2009 CD only has a single .IMG file and it’s huge.

Can anyone give me a hand here?

Thanks,
dog

Map Update for city navigator and your street pilot III

Hey Dog

I had a Street Pilot III myself, Those were the days Garmin gave you all the features, then they created the junk Nuvi series and started to take them away and sell them back to you, in model after model with firmware blunders. This is what ticks me off about Garmin even though I own them.

Anyway, you will need map install, get it from Garmin here:

https://buy.garmin.com/support/productSupport/kanaCase.faces...

1. Attach your Garmin device to the computer
2. Start MapInstall
3. Click Next or Continue on the Welcome screen
4. Click Next or Continue once your device is listed on the Find Device screen**
5. Click the mapping regions you wish to install
6. Click Next > Finish or Send Maps to load the mapping to the device

I trust when you bought the City Navigator you got a unlock code with it.

or search the internet for the same.
