POI categories on 60csx

I uploaded a few POI lists from POI Factory to my Nuvi and 60csx. Both show "Extras", but unlike Nuvi, 60csx does not show any categories after within "custom poi", for example eateries and cemeteries are shown lumped up, kind of making it meaningless for practical use.

Come to think of it, 60csx does not show categories under other "find" items...

Is this the case of unit not supporting categories, or is there a trick to this?

Is there another handheld Garmin that supports categories, and longer waypoint/POI names?

Thanks!

Hmmm... Are you running the City Navigator map on the 60CSx and not just the base or TOPO 2008 map? I have a 60CSx and when I have the road navigation SD card in with City Navigator, I can select from categories like "food" and "shopping" very similar to the way I can on my Nuvi.

What stumped me for a long time was how to search for something in another city. It wasn't that intuitive for me. You have to first do a search for the city THEN do a completely new POI search after the change of reference has been made. Now, it's all good. smile

The 60CSx is a FANTASTIC GPS unit. It would be my #1 choice to take back to the Gulf or anywhere else over all my other options. It's just that versatile and, even though it doesn't talk, it will do road navigation just fine. I get the exact same directions using it alongside my Nuvi with the same map update version (2010.40).

sviking, I am running a free Topo map from gspfilesdepot. However the categories I was talking about are from this site, so they would show under "Extras".

Using your example, my Nuvi shows additional categories under "Food", however I assume that 60csx would lump everything into one list.

Any ideas how to change "All categories" to a subcategory?

Thanks!

I found that when you went to Custom Poi, then allow to load up, then click menu and select the data base that you require. It will separate the info into the catagories that you uploaded to your unit. Hope that helps

maybe this will help

I'm using a nuvi and a Gpsmap 76csx, which I understand operates the same as the 60csx. I get the same categories to appear on both units. On the the 76 I select "custom points of interest" after which all points are shown. I then press menu once and press "select database" after which I can select from the different categories as with the nuvi.

I hope this helps.

Thanks!

Thank you all, "Select Database" did the trick!
