Speed vs. accuracy of Garmin nuvi 350 (or any nuvi)

Hi all,

I have noticed, that there is a minimum speed to get accurate reading from the satellites and your Garmin to pinpoint the location, direction and elevation. Does anyone know the standard boundary values above which the accuracy is getting to the specifications for the GPS device?

The second thing about my nuvi 350 is that even in pedestrian mode it tries to stick to the streets. I was on a train and it was parallel to the street, but when the tracks lead away from the street, the device tried to find the closest street, instead of showing the exact location. Is this due to this particular firmware (Garmin's) or it is a standard approach in the GPS devices.

Best regards!

Lock to street option

I don't know about the accuracy while moving a slow speeds, but as for your question about the GPS always locking onto the street. There should be an option to switch between locking to roads and show your GPS location. On my Mobile XT unit it is under the Settings => Map => Show Location. I have this same option on my BMW Navigator II and my old eTrax Vista. It should be available on the Nuvi as the Mobile XT interface is almost identical.
