Trouble loading icon

Hi
I did everything I have learned from this Forum about loading icon into my GPS (Garmin 255W) with no success.
Change the name of icon to match the POI file name. Check for double extension and/or extra ., set the file size to 20x20 and mode to 256 color index 8 bits file.
the bmp and csv files are in the same folder with exact same name except the extension.
Maybe the 255W model can not take bmp file? Any advise ?

* I did tried on both Win XP and Win 7 OS

I'm sure that the 255W does work with bmp icons.
Two thoughts:
1) Be very very sure about the extensions. If you have not disabled the Windows "feature" that conceals this information, do so. It never ever serves any useful purpose except to cause problems like this. From any folder, go to Tools --> Folder Options --> select the View tab --> under advanced settings uncheck "hide extensions for known file types" and then click OK or Apply. Recheck the file names, they should look like foo.csv and foo.bmp and are case sensitive (they must match exactly).
2) How are you determining that things are not working? Be aware that you may not see the icons unless you are zoomed in very tight on the POI. Try zooming in to 300 feet.

Thank you Frovingslosh. Following your instructions, I got it now. I have to go back to carefully check each file name, extension then I have to zoom-in very close in order to see the icon.
