Garmin 2010.40 Map update issue

Hi all,

Just bought a Nuvi265w on the weekend. Did the registration part, the Webupdate part, and all that. So, I qualify for a free map update to 2010.40. I downloaded it twice, and it will sit on "0% Extracting" forever. I even left it overnight, and it still won't unpack.

I'm running XPhome SP2 and I don't have issues with having the device show up as a drive or anything.

Can anybody give me some advice?

TIA.

Phone Garmin. I've always found them to be quite quick and knowledgeable with problems like yours.

nuvi 855. Life is not fair. I don't care who told you it is.

From Garmins website

You can try the following :

"Temporarily disable the Windows Firewall if this is enabled*

Temporarily disable any other Firewalls that might be active*

Temporarily disable the Anti Virus Software*

*Note: Please check with the software producers for further instructions. Any software you disable will be at your own risk.

When attempting to extract the update file please leave the computer for a good 15-30 minutes even if there is no activity as it can take a while for the extraction to begin.

If you are still experiencing problems you can try to extract the file using third party extraction Software."

Big File

The map file is huge. It is many times larger than PC users normally deal with. You need enough space on the hard drive for the compressed file and more space for it to be extracted. The operating system also has to be comfortable with the space available for its processing. If you have any less than 50% free space it gradually becomes a problem.

Map version 2010.4

Does anyone know if they ever got all the bugs out of this version? I still haven't downloaded it because of all the problems I'm hearing about.

I have not seen any problem of any kind

I've been running 2010.40 in my 885t since it was released and I have not seen any problem of any kind with this map update release.

2010.40

I will have to agree with rjrsw. I have installed 5 map updates starting with 2009.10. 2010.40 is the best version so far, at least in my area. I was pleased to find many new instances of lane assist.

I just loaded the update on two computers. The first computer had a problem dealing with the Garmin Download plug-in. The second computer experienced a problem with the acutal map.

If it is the download application (the first thing that Garmin downloaded after i registered) then you might try to skip that. You don't have to use it. There should be a small browser window that says it will be using the download application (either downloaded or loaded, depending on where it thinks you are) and a link you can click to go directly to the map. Click on the link and you will be directed to a download through the browser, not the Garmin add-on.

If it is the actual map, you might try to close all programs, as listed above, plus all browsers. That did the trick for me.

If that doesn't work, try to right down exactly what the window says it is trying to do and post that here.

I had trouble with a 2010

I had trouble with a 2010 map update on my 265WT. It would extract but it would never install correctly. Garmin had me try a few things and then said to try the install from a different PC. My desktop is only about a year old or so and reasonably beefy, so I doubted that trying a different PC would work. As well, I don't have any exotic things installed that should have been a problem.

I tried a 4-5 year old PC with a lot less horsepower and it worked fine from that one.

So in my experience, Garmin's installer has some problems. You might try doing your update from a different PC and see what happens.

Will this latest update work

Will this latest update work on a Nuvi 200?

I have it on my 200W right

I have it on my 200W right now. So yes, the 2010.40 update will work.

Having freezing problems.

I have done quite a few updates without problems. However, this latest one is not only slower to load but is causing occasional problems with my 750 freezing up. I plan to do a hard reset later today to see if that helps.
