OK, I'm hooked

After haveing my 750 about a month and giving wife a 755T for her B-day we won't even go 2 blocks without one. The RLC alert saved us the other day going to Prescot, never saw it till alarm went off. Road had been 65, changed to 55, we were 55 at trap and car in front maybe 57-60 go light-up. It was a city cam so no 10 MPH grace. Then the routes Garmin gives us to places we know are often better too. Cool coming out of the stone age, hope I don't forget my Compass skills, lol.

Yep

I never leave home with out it. Actually for long trips I take two - for a just in case.

Welcome to the site.

not too far off track

You're joking about the compass skills deteriorating, but when you keep relying on the GPS, I think the map and compass skills do get a bit rusty. They come back quickly with a little practice if you need them, but I don't know, you just see things differently with a GPS.

Guilty as charged!

I know I'm guilty of just jumping in and setting a route without doing a little planning beforehand. I have run into several instances where the Garmin route was significantly slower because it routed off the Interstate and onto surface streets because it may have shaved a couple hundred feet (or meters) off the route. I'm relearning to verify the intended route using a map before believing everything the unit tries to tell me.

Daily use too

I have somewhat surprised myself by using my 780 daily. Even though I generally know where I am going and do not set a route, I have found it quite useful when I decide at the last minute to deviate from my intended path.

Fun and useful devices....that now I don't leave home without.

My nuvi 760

is a great tool in the car even when I'm not using it to navigate. Provides me with hands-free phone calls via bluetooth and lets me listen to music via the mp3 player.

As someone else noted, it is great for scenarios where you have to take an unexpected alternate route.
