It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

All Garmin Model Batterys (fresh)

I always buy batteries for everything; razors, cell phones, cordless phones, computers etc, on Ebay. Check them out. Batteries for Garmin GPSs can be bought for a lot less than the $45 from PDASmart.

Here's another less expensive source

battery replacement

Since I use my GPS often on cruises I need a good battery. I always wondered what would happen once the battery dies. Excellent info on this thread. Thanx

The reason the word fresh was used

Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity through cell oxidation, a process that occurs naturally during use and aging. The typical life span of lithium-ion is 2-3 years under normal use. Cool storage a 40% charge minimizes aging. An aged lithium-ion cannot be restored with cycling. Lithium-ion is found in cell phones and mobile computing.

Shelf life plays a huge role in Lithium-ion batteries, ebay sellers and deep discounters buy up older stock with you the buyer not knowing it's manufacture date.

Aging of lithium-ion is an issue that is often ignored, and many manufacturers remain silent about this issue. capacity deterioration is noticeable after one year, whether the battery is in use or not.

So Buyer beware!

Even Garmin plays this game. My new 855 purchased in December '09 came with a battery stamped "Pack Assy Date 04/07/08".

Nuvi 660 Battery replacement Question

When you replace the battery in a nuvi660 does the map, POIs or other software need to be reinstalled?

In other words, does the nuvi loose data when the battery cable to the old battery is disconnected during the replacement process?

Data secure on battery replacement

No, your data should still be intact after replacing the battery. That said, it is always a good idea to do a fresh backup before doing any major upgrade.

if not used

...I would think that the nuvi battery would be completely dead, so I doubt anything is lost if the battery is removed...

I have changed many Nuvi batteries

As alanb says your data will be safe.
Garmin introduced the later version Street Pilot series they began using FLASH MEMORY (usb Cable conection see's a hard drive)and do not have a backup battery for memory retention. Earlier units used a lithium watch battery for memory retention.

I have changed many Nuvi batteries without problems, with that said it's always a good idea to back up you GPS before prying open the unit.
