Navteq traffic info in Greator Toronto Area

I started using Navteq traffic receiver withmy nuvi 765 for the last couple of months since they increased and upgraded their coverage on Toronto area.

But I am having one problem. Most of the times my fm receiver does not get traffic info for long time. it stays yellow for long time. Some times, I see green traffic icon on nuvi screen but little later, it turns grey. So it connects and disconnects. Not very stable.
Does anyone else has similar problem in Toronto area with Navteq traffic?

How can I check FM station status on my nuvi 765? Can I switch to different station if there are more than one?

I will appreciate your help.

Traffic Works Sometimes

Yes, the same thing happens with my Nuvi 760 and GTM 20 traffic receiver. I had no signal from Navteq FM traffic, so I signed up with Total Traffic Network by ClearChannel (at extra cost), who owns many FM broadcast stations. My drive to work is well within the claimed ClearChannel coverage area, but traffic info is only received when I am close to work. It also changes based on the weather. The FM station ClearChannel uses is close to work. Garmin tech support had nothing to contribute after several contacts. The GPS is mounted low on the dash near the GTM 20 and the cord is coiled. When I tied the cord up into a loop, I had traffic everywhere I drove. The conclusion is that the FM antenna for the GTM 20 is in the cord, and it has to be in a position for good reception. I don't know which service has better coverage in Toronto, but see this link for ClearChannel -

New firmware for traffic reports

Use your WebUpdater to check for possible firmware updates. Last weekend, Garmin released traffic firmware updates for several Nuvi models.

I updated my 1490T. I am not sure what the upgrade was supposed to do. I have not seen a grey traffic icon since I did the upgrade, but that could be a coincidence. Perhaps you will see an improvement with your experience in Toronto.

Traffic reception

Try hanging the power cord over the rearview mirror.

Get as much of the cord as you can up high.

This little trick doubled the range for me. I can get FM Traffic (on most days) from the transmitter located about 25 air miles away.

Thanks for your suggestions

Thanks for your suggestions and feedback. I used to have MSN Direct upto last December and never had any issue on the reception. It was always working eveywhere in Toronto area. Sometimes it picks up signal outside my house and sometimes it does not.
But I will try to hang the wire high to see if it makes any difference.

It goes down may be because

It goes down may be because it is a free service included with Garmin.
Secondly, I have seen ads only once. Couple of weeks ago it started showing couple of ads again and agian but then all disappeared.

Total Traffic Network

Every location is different, but I got a better signal from ClearChannel Total Traffic Network, and no ads. MSN is no longer an option - search for another thread on this at POI Factory.

But is the data from ClearChannel any better?

Can anyone comment if the information supplied by TTN for the GTA is better or more up-to-date than Navteq's? I've read in these forums that Navteq's updates every 15 min or so. Does TTN's update more frequently?

Thanks!

ClearChannel data

This thread is about FM traffic signal coverage, but in my opinion, with regard to the New York City and Long Island area, ClearChannel TTN has better traffic data than Navteq. There have been numerous times when their info has been there with practical help when I needed it.
