Use Extra POI Loader

http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor is a link to a terrific software program that will let you open a .gpx file and then do many things to that file.

If you just want to look at the file, open it in Wordpad. You will have to change the default file type to "all files (*.*)"

If you have mapsource right

If you have mapsource right click on file and select open with and select mapsource from the list. Also you can download to Extra Poi Editor to see the file.

Why?

You are already getting good feedback on what to use to open the XML based files. My question is, "why did you do that?". There certainly can be valid reasons. gpx is needed for bluetooth dialing of included phone numbers, for example. But unless there was a reason to make the conversion, you just converted from an easy to work with format to a verbose and complex format.

One tool that you could use to open these converted files is a text editor. That will show you the full XML markup language that your data is now packed into,

xml Notepad 2007

the gpx format is internally xml (Extensible Markup Language). Has anyone tried to edit one of these files using the Microsoft xml notepad (use google search to find the download)
