Latest Maps used on vacation....

Used the heck out of our 660 with latest maps in Ft Myers, FLA this past week...
Only had one gotcha... GPS told us to do a left turn to our Condo Rental immediately after returning from the Causway From Sanibel Island. No, Don't do that! There is a concrete wall there! (Could have been a recent addition).

Used the POI's I added, Used the POI's that came with Garmin a lot (First time relying so heavily on that-- and it worked fine)...

Never saw any traffic info....

All in all, a great-- though cool time was had....

GPS Saved time for us numerous times.... maybe as high as 30 times, with all the exploring and visiting we did...

"Okay, Try and stay on the road this time, Okay?"
"What's the matter, are You lost Again? Can't you follow instructions?"
Gotta love text to speech editor!!!

And this site was keeping our POI's and Redlight cameras up to date as well!!!

GPS on Vacation

Have to agree with you there!

Our nuvi and the files on the POI Factory have become indispensible when we're on vacation. We've never used the traffic files but the tourist POIs on this site are FANTASTIC! Whether it's finding a great place to eat or the nearest rest stop laugh out loud, our GPS - and the POI Factory - have added to our travel enjoyment.

OHHHHHH Sanibel Island

Ok, you made me want to get JillMap out and plot our way to Sanibel Island. Spent a week on the island before I had a GPS. It would have been a lot of help with a GPS and all the files on this site. Did you make any POIs for Sanibel Island? If so please post them.
Hope you had a great time. grin

vacation in Ft Myers

I, too, was in Ft Myers recently for vacation (1/29-2/8). The maps in my StreetPilot 2730, however, are at least 4 years old, so I definitely needed updated maps.

My wife's parents purchased a house in a new development east of I-75, which, of course, does not show up on the GPS. There's also a two-year-old shopping complex Gulf Coast Town Center that doesn't appear. Also, Exit 128 on I-75 is slightly different (westbound traffic on Alico Rd now has its own right-hand ramp to I-75).

We didn't make it to Sanibel (is it worth the $6 toll?), but we did go the Ft Myers Beach one night for dinner (plus, to dip our toes in an unusually cold Gulf of Mexico).

Say Hey

Hope you folks visiting Ft Myers waved hello to my in-laws while you were there. laugh out loud wink

That I-75/Alico Rd area has undergone some recent changes that may not be in the most recent maps.

The extension of Imperial (from Bonita Springs) north, past where the name changes to Three Oaks ending at Alico Rd, finally showed up on the 2010.40 map update.

The Gulfcoast Town Center is also on the 2010.40 map update.

Turnoff

The exact turn that did not display correctly is:

Coming from Sanibel to mainland. Immediately after toll booth (on side to the island)... GPS said to turn left onto Punta Rassa road...
A concrete barrier prevented this.
We went to next intersection and did U turn..

Also. Our exact Condo location there was: N26-29-28.7 W082-00-39.5, and that was about 1/4 mile off the road as Garmin knew about it...

Worth more than $6

If you like to shell you don't want to miss Sanibel Island. It is the #1 shelling beach in America.
It was worth the dinner at Cheeburger, Cheeburger alone. If you go again be sure and pay the $6.00 and see what you are missing. Be sure and update your maps on the Garmin. They were doing road work when we were there.
