Nuvi 255W goes into a beeping loop

My Nuvi 255w goes into a loop occasionally where it beeps so fast it sounds like a 'gurgle' It seems to happen I think around custom POI's like cameras and announcing a turn. I updated the firmware and did a reset but it still does it occasionally. Anyone experience this and any suggestions on a fix?

.

Try turning off the RLC's and see if there's a change. Remove the unknown variables (POI's) and see what happens. I'll bet it stops. wink

I will give that a try this

I will give that a try this week, thanks

255W Has other issues

This is getting frustrating, now my unit turns itself off when it goes into recalculating. Been back and forth with Garmin, no resolution. Any suggestion. 255W

.

Check to see if any POI's are on the unit itself. It sounds like a corrupt file somewhere.

Have you done a hard reset yet?

Same here

I have same problem. Its frustrating I know. But just because of this reason I have changed my device 2 times. I bought it from Best buy and all the device had same problem. No help from garmin guys.
I have figure out some thing from this problem.
1) problem happens more when Traffic is on and FM receiver updating traffic in the starting of trip
2) Problem happens more often when I leave the device in car so temperature change could be a problem.
3) all most all the time device gets shut down when its recalculating. and the first thing you have to do when you restart is stop the process of calculating the route or it will turn off again. Then re enter the address and go.
4) 255WT takes more time to acquire satellite signal than 255W.

Interesting observations. I

Interesting observations. I agree with all the observation now I feel sane at least. How do you stop it from recalculating? and How do you do the hard reset? I've asked Garmin and they keep telling me to update firmware.

I think my problems started when I did a free map update, but I am not sure. I did delete all the custom POI's that had proximity alerts. Stops the beeping but it still shuts down.

Thanks

Suggestions

Hi rjg202

I have a 255W and had the exact same problem of the unit shutting down when going into the recalculating mode. (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/27927)

D.N. gave me some very valuable tips which corrected the problem.

Try the following:

1- Do what Juggernaut suggests, remove all the POI's including your sd card if your using one.

2-Erase the voice file your currently using (It might have gotten corrupted)

3-Go to WebUpdater and reload the most current firmware (6.40) and then the same for the voice file you just deleted.

4- Do a hard reset ( http://www.poi-factory.com/node/26136), just don't forget to back up your favorites first.

Test your unit and see if all of the above solves your recalculating problem. If the problem persists, I would do a second hard reset. After a few days if all goes well, reload a few POI's at a time for trial and error purposes.

I did the above and so far so good. Let us know if it worked and if you have any other questions you just have to ask.

Good luck wink

I will give this a shot tonight, and try it tomorrow.
I think I know how to reload the voices, will give that a shot.
Thanks

So far So Good. I am afraid

So far So Good. I am afraid to download any new updates from the Garmin Site. I may try to put some POI's in on a controlled basis.

Thanks for the help

Great News !
