MSN Direct Live Traffic

All of a sudden I am not receiving live traffic maps on my Nuvi 680 with the MSN Direct. I do receive weather, movies and fuel prices so I know I have a signal. Oddly the unit is giving me updates for traffic when I'm navigating but is not showing anything on the MSN Map. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm currently trying to contact Garmin about the issue but was accidently disconnected before I got an answer when I called... I accidently hung up the speaker phone while on hold (insert cussing here).

log into your MSN Direct account & click Reactivate Now

Don't call Garmin you need to just log into your MSN Direct account and you will see the following

"Not receiving new data? Select a device and click Reactivate Now! MSN Direct will reactivate your device free of charge."

Just select the reactivate now link and your problem should be fixed. Garmin has no control over the MSN Direct data stream.

No luck

Already gave that a try yesterday with no luck.

It's a Garmin issue

Okay, so I spoke with an MSN Direct representative and they've told me it is a known issue that Garmin is having with their software. I'm unsure if it is related to their latest software or map update though. Garmin is a little more difficult to get on the phone, but I'm going to try them again to see what I can learn from the source.

firmware issue

I have heard various reports of this issue and it's likely caused by the newest firmware update v4.80. Why Garmin doesn't fully test these updates is beyond me...hell, hire me as a dedicated firmware tester/debugger and I'll find the bugs...sheesh rolleyes

Think of changing devices

If you keep having problems you my want to start thining about changing devices. MSN direct will no longer be available after 01/01/12.

2012

2012 is quite a while away when you think about it. I'd like to milk the unit for all it's worth before then. I can accept that MSN Direct is going away but as long as it is around I'd sure like it to work and expect Garmin to support it.

agreed

If you have MSN access to the cutoff date and the traffic display worked previously on your 660 and stopped working after the firmware "update", the problem is the "update" and Garmin needs to address the issue.

If you'd like, you can try backdating the firmware to the previous version 4.70. Note that it may or may not work as Garmin sometimes adds code to the current firmware which prevents backdating. I'd say it's worth a try at least...until Garmin fixes the issue themselves and releases an updated firmware. Besides, who really knows how long this would take them. rolleyes

It works

I installed the prior firmware and sadly it worked. I say "sadly" not because I'm unhappy with the help you provided, but sad that you were able to solve the problem so simply while Garmin was going to have me send my receiver in for service costing me $$. I knew there was no way the receiver was at fault as all other MSN data was coming in. How would it not be working if the receiver, well receives???

Blue Skies and thanks for the help
