Map Update Question

So I am happy that I was able to update my recently purchase 1300 to 2010_40, but I have a questions.

Once the map was downloaded into the gps unit I get the following message.

"Due to file size limitations, regional maps have been installed to the connected device. MapInstall may be used to transfer other rgions to an SD card for use when inserted into the GPS unit."

Does this mean not all maps have been installed?

If so how can I find out which "region" has been installed. I would hate to go from MA to FL not realizing I don't have detailed maps of the SE.

Thanks!

.

That means that not all the maps have been installed to the unit.

You can see which maps have been installed typically by going to Settings/Wrench > Map > Map Info. It will list the maps that are installed.

As the message states, you can install the rest of the map regions to an SD card using the MapInstall program.

Thanks, When I look at

Thanks,

When I look at Settings>Map>Map Info it lists

CN North America NT 2010.40
[1] Lower 49 States

I guess that means all the states are loaded (+Puerto Rico) except HI and AK?

strange guess

Dear Jazzy,

Although the Mailer-Breslin Camapaign for Mayor in the early 70s pushed for NYC becoming the 51st state, there remain only 50. How are you deducting 49 and arriving at a result of 2?

Yes, I would say that you have the lower 49 states. No Alaska, no Puerto Rico, and no Canada.

pretty funny! According the some recent political election I thought there were 57 states:)

I know there are 50 states. I just didn't know what was ment by the "lower 49" due to a brain lock. I always leave AK and HI out when counting CONUS states 50-2=48. I needed to add 1 more puesdo state to get 49 in the "lower 49".......48+PR=49.

I know PR is a territory of the US and not a state so I don't need a geography lesson.

Lower 49States

When I installed on my c530, the options were not for the complete lower 49 states (I guess they include Hawaii), but for East, West, or 4 different options on the Lower 49, but none including all of them.
I installed West, and then with MapInstall, selected everything on the Eastern 1/4 of the country + Canada onto my SD card.

When I installed the map I didn't get an option to choose which map to download (for both the 255 and 1300). I just chose the default install option and it downloaded what i listed above. I don't know if the c530 has smaller memory than either the nuvi255 or nuvi1300, which would require additional maps to be download to the sd.

Can someone confirm the at least CONUS can fit in a nuvi255 or nuvi1300?

My Sony NV-U94T doesn't have this lack of memory problem. It covers the CONUS, HI, AK, PR and Canada.

Nevermind, the "lower 49"

Nevermind, the "lower 49" for garmin means CONUS, HI and PR.

For the NUVI 1300: "it comes with City Navigator NT street maps for the continental US, Hawii and Puerto Rico or one European region or country"

AK

Better make sure AK is counted in that continental US or Ms. Palin will be on your case! ... oh wait ... is that in Russia? wink

Have you cleaned up the Nuvi's files? Deleted unneeded voices, or any other files? That might help get the last section(s) in.

Also POI Files

Maybe consider putting POI files on the SD Card. I started doing this recently and much prefer it. When it says new card found, just be sure to say "No" when it asks if you want load to the Garmin and also be sure to check, "Don't ask me this again".

I don't think I am out of memory.

I looked at myDashboard and it tells me that I have 204.1 MB of free space available with CONUS and HI loaded.

On the other hand, my nuvi 255 has CONUS, AK and HI with 503 MB of free space available..

nuvi 255 is retailed for $139.99 (255w is $179.99), the nuvi 1300 (widescreen) is retailed for $189.99.

It guess the 1300 has less memory than the 255.

Looking at the side by side specs, the 255/255W is a better value than the 1300.

Sorry but ..

Sorry, but I had to throw in that while SHE never lived on Diomede, technically it IS only 2.4 miles from AK to Russia. mrgreen

Here's a cool link to a panorama from a backyard in AK that you CAN actually see Russia from, though-

Apologies again for being off topic but I couldn't help myself.
