CSV -vs- POI FILE

arrow If someone so kindly explain to me what is the difference between the POI file abd the CSV file

Where do I place the Icons as listed below?

I found where you copy and paste the vehicles

I have on my PC a folder with subfolders as in........

Garmion

CVS files - auto repair
- Hospitals
- Walmart

Garmin Manual - Manual PDF

Icons - Airport
- Burgerking
- Mcdonalds
- Vet
- Homedepot

Vehicles - Toyota tundra

Thanks very much and Happy New Garmin

Rick

.

The icons need to go in the same folder as the corresponding CSV (or GPX) Custom POI file.

Note that these are the folders on your COMPUTER not on the GPS unit.

Then the icons are loaded to the GPS with the Custom POI files when you run POI Loader.

Thanks MM for your kind

grin Thanks MM for your kind help. I'm sure I am full of questions.

Rich,

There is a TON of information designed exactly to answer the types of questions you are asking in the FAQs. Look through them, read and learn. You will be utterly amazed at how all the pieces begin to fit together.

Oh, and welcome to the site. I sincerely hope your medical insurance covers addictions. This is one of those sites you just can't get enough of.

There are two types of POI files (Garman) DSV and GPX. Theses two formats will load into the Garman units. CSV files can be created using a text editor or Excel. GPX are created using special editor which can be found searching this site.

file types

As you get more familiar with this site and workings of your new GPSr, you'll learn that on Garmin units you can use csv and gpx file types. These are then "loaded" onto the Garmin unit using POI Loader and then will be seen as a poi.gpi file when you look at the files on the unit.
It's all confusing in the beginning, hang in there and read and learn and create.
