Summer Trip Down I-25

I am planning a trip to Albuquerque in early June. I intend to head down to Billings and take I-25 through Wyoming and Colorado. I will have five days for the trip down and would like to take in some of the tourist attractions, history and scenary.

Any suggestions for unique sites would be greatly appreciated!

Tourist Stuff

For your next trip, plan one to Glacier National Park. Simply magnificent.

While you will get

You will get a good many suggestions from members here, I would also contact the various states you will be traveling through. Each has a tourism office that will provide you with not only books and listings, but paper maps as well.

My suggestion would be to take I-15 south and into Bozeman, MT. From there drop down to West Yellowstone and drive through the park. Exit the right side and go through the Ten Sleep Canyon for some absolutely beautiful scenery. From there, there are several options to reaching I-25 to rejoin the route South.

Heading North, I would plan on stopping at Mt. Rushmore planning a late afternoon arrival. The ceremony of lighting the mountain at sunset is another great site. You can stay the night in Rapid City and take I-90 West back into MT and then AB.

I will second the motion on Mt. Rushmore. We had our son and daughter there when they were about 3 and 5 years old. My son (who was 3) could not get enough of Mt. Rushmore. After the lighting ceremony, we were driving back to Rapid City. He stared out the back window of the car until Mt. Rushmore was out of sight. Great place to visit.
