Hello to all lovers of the Olympic Winter Games, here is a bit of warmth in this cold winter`s day! You can follow live the Torch Relay across Canada!
I am putting the link here, but if this is not allowed you can take it down!
The link is: http://www.ctvolympics.ca/torch/follow-torch/index.html
You can see where the torch is on the map besides the screen!
Most people on this site know that the 2010 Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver and Whistler this coming February.
Many may not be aware of the Torch relay, with the Olympic Torch criss-crossing the country over the next couple of months. There will literally be thousands of torch bearers, as each person carries the torch for only 300 meters. It has been quite a spectacle so far, with national heroes (Sidney Crosby, Barbara Anne Scott) mixed in with ordinary citizens.
It certainly seems to have had the desired effect, as thousands of people are turning out along the route - quite impressive to watch!
I've had the opportunity to attend two Olympics; 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics (where the US Hockey team made history), and 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. My son and I attended the opening ceremonies, when Mohamed Ali came into the stadium to lite the Olympic Calderon, I don't think there was a dry eye in the place. Because of a friend I have a picture with my son and I holding the exact torch that Mohamed Ali use to light the Calderon.
If you happened to see the 96 Torch Run, you might remember seeing two Harley's (3 wheelers) painted up with Coke-A-Cola coolers on the back that escorted the Torch. (Coke being the sponsor.) My son met one of the drivers while we were in Atlanta. That summer we attended Sturgus and guess who was there? The two Coke Harley's, they invited us to ride with them on Saturday night, the night was ablaze with camera flashes.
Season`s Greetings to you all and thank you for your comments! I guess there are only a few Olympic lovers here! I am glad you revived your memories about your experiences with the Olympics that`s what this is all about Memories! Happy Memories!!!
we had one of the park and ride lots for the winter 2002 games in Utah. Great experience. Stood on the top of the Hill and looked down on the thousand of cars parking to take the bus to the skie areas.
Hopefully, like four years ago, they show curling on TV. I love that game.
C'mon now - you're kidding?
Curling, like hockey, is not a sport well known or appreciated by most Americans. There is actually a lot of strategy and finesse to the game... and then there's the bar - every curling club I have ever been in has a lounge!
Has anyone done any POIs for the upcoming Winter Olympics? My brother is going to travel out there this winter and would like to load up his new GPS with custom POIs of all the Olympic events and locations.
