I don't see where you are reading that.

From what I read, after your purchase you'll get an email offering a refund of $10 by Wired magazine if you subscribe to Wired. Amazon offers a year subscription for $10, so you'd essentially getting the subscription for free once you get the refund check.

I don't see anywhere that you can get the refund UNLESS you subscribe to Wired.

Just ordered two lifetime updates. I remember two years ago having to pay $80 for just one annual update.

if you are willing to wait to get your card in the mail, it is now considerably cheaper than getting an instant code WHICH INVOLVES NO HANDLING. Does this seem strange?

What happens when your state of the art GPS unit becomes hopelessly obsolete in a few years? Are you better off getting the best mpas at purchase time, and banking the $80 to buy a replacement system complete with new maps sooner...

Dang it. I just bought it from Amazon a week ago for $90 + shipping. Was a good deal at the time.

How important are the map updates

Not important at all unless you want new streets, major changes in current roads, and updated POIs on your GPS.

I bought it and it's finally shipped. It's pretty weird that buying the card that has to be shipped is considerably less expensive than buying the electronic version that requires only an email to be sent.

I didn't see anything about the Wired offer when I purchased mine but then I wasn't looking for it so maybe I just missed the thing.

Hopefully I won't encounter the issue of an invalid activation code which seems to be the main complaint of the folks who give this a poor review on Amazon.

Just placed the order today ... $79.99 lifetime price still going on.

Got the card in the mail, scratched off the stuff that hides the activation code, did the download and install. Everything went off without a hitch.

Lucky us buying when we did. The price now is $93.16.
