excel to gpi

O.K. I give up.

How do you covert these excel poi downloads to garmin gpi files?

Please.

POILoader

Download POILoader from the Garmin web site.

When you load a csv or gpx

When you load a csv or gpx files using poiloader to your gps it converts the files to a gpi file. You have to save a excel file as a csv file to load with poiloader.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25743

Here is the process for loading pois to your gps unit. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721

gpx files

O.K. I got "gpx" files found under "garmin" in the gps directory. I am unable to get any kind of information by clicking on that except a message that says "unreadable".
Am I to assume that the poi's are loaded and no further action is required?
Unfortunately I am unable to look for any icon on the gps as I don't know the location of the items. ( this being obvious or I wouldn't need a gps smile

.

What GPS unit are you using?

If you loaded the files per the outline I posted and you receive so many pois have been loaded at the end of poiloader no other action is needed.Go to where to,extras and touch custom pois last to view what was loaded to your 765t

If you want to look at the gpx file you can download Extra Poi Editor (not for Mac at this time) at http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor . When you download the program if you get message about OCX file missing scroll down on the main page and under troubleshooting you will find the Extra Poi Editor Installer that you will need to download. Once installation is completed you will need to set up the preferences you want first. Under options click on preferences. For example using ft for input. Under units you will see editor, select Imperial/US. For Field Read and Field save select Metric. After setting your preferences click file on Extra Poi Editor and select the gpx on your computer that you want to view .Double clicking on any one of the custom pois will give you several options to add extra data when using gpx files.Save back in the gpx format .This program does a lot of things that you will find many uses for.

Edit.To see the icons you will need to zoom in real close to see them.Garmin does not want to clutter screen with icons. The icon will show once you get close to destination you have selected. You can also select a custom poi and touch map at bottom at bottom of gps screen to verify that you do have custom icon for that poi.
