Nuvi 855 or Tour Guides?

I had an issue with the gps on the last trip.

While traveling with our RV I put alerts on Rest Areas and Tour Guide alerts on all 5 truck fuel stops.

On at least one occasion, Barstow, CA, most of these alerts came up at the same time (intersection of I15 and I40). The screen on my Nuvi 855 froze. The route directions were still being sent through the audio.......
The screen froze on another occasion during a Tour Guide audio alert.

Anyone else notice this?

The multiple alerts on both the map screen and dashboard screen may be hard for the Nuvi to handle.

Yep!

Are you using WAV or MP3 alerts? My 885 freezes with Tourguide alerts using WAV files. These are the same unit, the only difference being Bluetooth.

Oh, to get it working again, hold the power switch to the left for about 10-15 seconds to force a reboot.

MP3 files

I am using mp3 files.
I did reset using the power switch. Worked well but it did not cancel the route!! I guess this is ok but a bit confusing....
I have since removed the Tour Guide alerts. Lets see how this works.
I do not use the dashboard for any length of time but I did notice that the alerts show up there with an OK screen, almost full size. When the multiple alerts came this screen seem to get confused....
All in all the 855 is a great machine. You just have to learn to trust it.

I've had a 855 for a couple

I've had a 855 for a couple years and I put up with the freezes and reboots since it is the only Garmin unit that you can delete roads from your route. The 855/885 problems are well doucmented all over the internet.

beta tester?

Were you a beta tester for the 855? As I recall they weren't available in the US for sale until early 2009. How do you get to be a beta tester for Garmin?
