Is there a simple way to transfer favorites from Garmin 255WT to 765T ?

Greetings BTW Great forum... Quick Question.. I just purchased a Garmin 765T from Best Buy during their 4 day sale for $219. (Best price I've seen besides Amazon) This was an upgrade for my 255WT because I wanted the multipoint routing function that the 255 model did not have. Is there a quick way (other than typing all the favoites over again) to move them from the 255WT to the 765T? Or do I just need to oil up my biscuit fingers and pound away??

Favorites

As far as I know, you cannot just transfer Favorites. What might be a better option for you to create POI files instead of using your Favorites. That way you can easily transfer them in the future and you can update them via your computer. I only use Favorites for short term saving of locations. POI files for long term use.

Transfer Your Favorites

Transfer your favorites from your 255 to Mapsource and then transfer them from Mapsource into your new unit.

That's what I did from my 255W to my 1350T. Works fine.

If you don't have Mapsource,

If you don't have Mapsource, try this. Copy current.gpx favorite file from your 255W GPX folder to PC. Rename it temp.gpx and copy it to 765WT GPX folder. Turn off and back on. This should copy your old favorites to new unit. If it works and you still have temp.gpx file on 765WT, just delete it. It deletes automatically on some - not on others.

Juse use file copy

Windows or Mac; Just copy the "Current.gpx" file from the X:Garmin/GPX folder on the device to your desktop. Rename the file to "Temp.gpx". Copy to the X:Garmin/GPX folder on the new device. Boot it up and your Favorites will be on the new device. No special software desired.

Good tip

Very handy, wish I'd have known that prior to upgrading from the 750 to the 755t. would have made things easier.

Migrating favorites to new Nuvi.

I used the TEMP.GPX solution which worked fine.
One thing that I found out is that, even though I had a Favorite called "HOME", it didn't automatically get linked to the "HOME" function built into my new Nuvi 765T. I had to select "HOME" as my WhereTo, and then re-set my Home destination in "Tools" by pointing to my recent selection.
