can anyone tell me if this unit gives the street name plus the route number, when you are following a route to a destination, and if not are there any garmin units that do. also would like to know if it has a reverse route button .

No reverse route

I just got a 255W, actually I won it in a drawing. No reverse route. I wish it did. It does say street names, but I'm not sure what you mean by route #?

my present 330 always tells me the street name to turn on, but many times there is no street name but a route number. most cities use route numbers, very few use the name of the street, and this can be very frustrating.

Not sure....

Are you in the US? Here in Oregon 98% of the paved roads have street names. Highways have route numbers and both my Nuvi 365 and 765 will display the route/hwy name. It does seem to vary somewhat though and apparently without rhyme or reason. For example, when I'm on Hwy 58, sometimes the GPS will display HWY 58, sometimes it shows "Willamette Hwy." I think it must depend upon the auto-zoom feature when approaching intersections and the unit displays more information, but I'm not sure.

255w Route Name / Number

We have this Garmin model and as far as I can tell, it uses the street name, not the route number. For instance, it will say "turn left on Garmin St and travel 75 miles". This is a clue that Garmin St. is also a numbered highway on a map. As far as I know after usung this unit for 4 months, I do not know of a reverse route button.

255w Route Name / Number

Yes, the 255W will give you the street names and a route number ie: Turn right on route 95 North, Take route 128 South. I have traveled from Boston to Florida twice and has given me the correct information. If a road has two names 60th Ave and State Rd 7, the garmin has always used 60th Ave. And no, there is no reverse button. If you have imputed your starting location, when you get to your destination, just look under recently found and hit and it will take you to back to your starting location. I hope this has helped

on my 330 , it always wants to take a different route back to my original starting point. thats why i am questioning the 255w, thanks for the replies.

The voice may make a difference, too

Sometime my 340 uses a street name, sometimes a state route number. It seems to depend on where I am at the time.

It may also depend on the voice. An "American" voice will more likely recognize "US 23" or "OH 161"
than an Australian voice.
