How can I download just the POIS for my area (DFW)? Just found this site and I don't really understand how this works.

Just go to the "POI Files"

Just go to the "POI Files" tab at the top of the page and select whatever you are looking for. I do not believe that the POI files are listed by location, rather by interest. Most of the POI files will say something like, " VA Rest Areas" or "NC Rest Areas" and you can choose whatever you like. Hope this helps.

hmmm

I would love to just download all the POI's in my area without having to load them one by one.

Maybe others know how to do

Maybe others know how to do it, sorry, but I don't.

City Specific POIs

POI files are not usually designed by specific area of the country. Some of the files on this site ARE designed by area, and if you are not from that particular area, avoid them. If you see one for a POI that you want that is not area specific, go ahead and download it. It should contain the POIs in your area of interest. Although it will contain the same for (perhaps) all of the U.S., you shouldn't be concerned because POI files are not usually memory intensive. What you want, I believe, is a single file containing all the POI files for say Atlanta, GA (if I'm reading you correctly). POI files are designed by "interest" rather than locale - so, you simply cannot get there from here....

If there is something you want only for your particular area, you will have to spend some time editing the file. For instance, the Redlight Camera file.

You could for example;

download the file, then open that file in Excel, (or appropriate editing program) sort or pick out only the ones you want to keep and delete the others, do a "save-as" (so you can also have the original file intact) and name it what ever you want.

You now have the "original" file, and the modified "only what you want" file.
