I am trying to send a route from Mapquest to my Nuvi, 765T. keeps telling me the communicator plugin is not detected, go to the test page, and it is detected. I am using IE 8, and Firefox, both get same message. Has anybody had this problem, and found a fix? I have the latest version of communicator 283

I had this happen once with a previous version of Communicator. After I rebooted my PC all was good.
Not sure if the reboot is the answer but it was the only time I've had the problem you outlined.

You might try to uninstall
You might try to uninstall in and when you reinstall the plugin, make sure you are installing it as an administrator

This happened to me using google maps. I went to the test page and it said I had the latest update and all was ok.
I went to this link in Garmin:
http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/
downloaded and installed the new version, even though it told me I had it, and now all works great for me.

I tried everything
nothing worked, went to Garmin support, they say it's a Mapquest problem, and to contact them, so I guess that will be the next step. except that I now have my Windows 7 upgrade, maybe install that 1st, then see what happens.

I upgraded to Windows 7, and now the communicator works like it was supposed to. Thanks for the suggestions
