Garmin on eBay

I would think that if you bought a full version of CN once, you should be able to get the upgrade price on subsequent upgrades.

I don't know about the c550, but the c340 has built in maps and you don't get an unlock code with it. Check out the Garmn site for info about the c550.

In short, unless you can get the registation stuff from this guy, you are out of luck. My co-worker is experiencing the same issue.

Even though the maps are preloaded, Garmin does supply an unlock code on a yellow piece of paper included with the unit. (at least for the c530). I used this to activate Mapsource.

So you used the unlock code for the GPS for the mapsource? Interesting. So I wonder if you can use any unlock code to unlock maps. In other words, what if I use my unlock code to unlock my co-worker's new maps

Josh, that may be a question you may want to run by Garmin. They should give you the "correct" answer with just a phone call.....I know, it's a long wait, but thank goodness its an 800 number.

Under FAQ's on the Garmin web site they post:

Q. Does Garmin have any authorized dealers on eBay or any other online auction site?
A. Garmin does not have any authorized dealers that sell new products directly on online auction sites. Any purchases made through online auction sites are on a "buyer beware" basis. A copy of the original sales receipt is required as the proof of purchase for warranty repairs. Online auction confirmations are not accepted for warranty verification and Garmin will not replace any missing components from any package purchased through an online auction.

There is always the possibility that products purchased through eBay or other online auction sites could be stolen merchandise. You assume this risk when you buy through these auction sites. If you buy a Garmin product through an online auction site and later send it to Garmin for service, if the product is determined by Garmin to be stolen merchandise upon receipt at Garmin's facility (through a serial number match), Garmin reserves the right to return the product to its rightful owner or send it to the investigating law enforcement authorities.

the garmin c550 comes with ver. 8 which is the latest ver.

I bought my 660 off of ebay.
In order to register it I had to send in a picture of the back of my Nuvi, and provide a copy of the transaction with my name and the seller/owners name.
After Garmin made sure everything was on the up & up I received a email with my coupon code and the unlock code.

Wow, you were lucky. I have heard ppl that purchased from Ebay and then got stuck you know where.

There is a file of the 25 digit code in the unit. The software uses this to unlock the maps within the unit. Search for 25 digit code or something like that to find it here or at www.gpspassion.com
