Baltimore city proposed speed cameras

Here is a gpx file for the proposed speed cameras in Baltimore city:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25342

Enjoy.

Just the beginig 51 total cameras to be installed

School Zones, How clever is that. I hope they make a ton of money, when it comes to children safety I can't think of a better way to use these cameras.

So to those of you in the city of Baltimore, a thought for the future:

when you approach a school zone slow down to the posted speed school hours or not. The devices will be placed within half a mile or so of each school. Signs will be posted near the cameras warning drivers that they are being monitored. The state law limits use of the cameras in a school zone to between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Drivers caught going 12 mph or more over the speed limit will get a $40 ticket. That ticket will be mailed to the registered driver whose license plate was photographed.

So don't say you haven't been warned, because I just did! Keep your POI-Factory files up to date and be aware of your surroundings.

Baltimore City vs. Baltimore County

The listed cameras are in the county. The referenced POI file is for the city. Am I wrong??

Thank you for sending them in.

One of Maryland’s nicknames is the “Free State”. Obviously this is no longer true.

New cameras everywhere in Maryland

Just for those who were not aware. Up until now, speed cameras in Maryland were in very limited jurisdictions. The new law has just went into effect and speed cameras are allowed everywhere in Maryland (as long as certain restrictions are met). There will be many many new cameras in Maryland in the next few months. Be aware and update often.

Also be aware that any Camera in Montgomery County that was in place prior to the new laws going into effect is grandfathered in and does not have to comply with the new law. For example they run 24 hours a day in school zones, not just until 8pm. Any new camera placed will have to follow the new law.

School zones are fine but.....

In my area they have several speed cams in school areas. While I'm no fan of these money making contraptions I think school zones (while school is open) is a good use for these cameras. They also have warning lights telling you they are in use.
Problem is the politicians just can't help themselves to this revenue stream and under the guise of public safety they start putting them up anywhere they can make a profit.

Speed Cameras

Well, Governor O'Malley is uncertain in his bid for re-election. I can only conclude, as a Marylander, he is definitely correct about the mood of the taxpayer in one of the most highly taxes states in the US.

Maryland will "tax" anything it can with it's budget shortfalls & taxes may yet rise anyway.

Spoken as a Marylander since 1970.

Fred

Three cameras activated this

Three cameras activated this Monday from that list, I believe. One I know for sure and two I read on the news. The one I know, I reported to Miss POI, it's at the Milford Mill Academy location.

By the way, until 8 pm? Seriously? Kids leave school at 2:45. I've driven past that school almost every day for several years and never actually seen kids crossing there, but of course 95% of the time I drive is past 2:45.

New School Zones seem to popping up all over Maryland! Riverdale Park had been testing a mobile speed camera on East West Highway at Taylor Street a few weeks ago, but it's gone now.
