Business not found on Garmin

I was trying to navigate to Super Cuts near my home from work the other day. This location has been in existence for at least 5 years.

I did a search on my Nuvi 780 but could not find this location.

So here is my question. How does businesses find their way into the Garmin Maps POI's ?

I searched for a few other business in the same business center and found them, but no Super Cuts.

Navteq

Garmin gets their maps (with embedded POIs) from Navteq. So that's a question for Navteq. I've never seen Navteq publish the internal workings of their mapping company.

Maybe someone here with insider information knows, but otherwise, any answer would be pure guesswork.

The best answer I can come up with to your question is, "sometimes, very, very slowly." wink

There will be hit and miss...

There are so many businesses that I don't think any GPS have space or speed to carry them.

The Factory

That's one of the things that makes the POI Factory website so useful. You can download and install custom POI files for the places, businesses, etc. that are important to you.

The files found here will almost certainly be more complete and accurate than anything included with the maps.

If you don't find a POI file that you are looking for, you can post a suggestion here:

If you are into creating POI files, or want to learn, then creating a new one and submitting it to The Factory is a way to get the POIs that you want, while contributing to the POI Factory community of users at the same time.

I got the same problem, try

I got the same problem, try to find a Banana Republic store in the mall. With the 2009 map version I got nothing, but with 2008 map it show. The store still in business and nothing change.

.

The built in POIs were never designed to contain EVERY business. They just represent a sampling.

Nuvis contain between 6-9 million POIs. That is far less than the number of businesses, attractions, parks, etc. in the U.S.

I certainly want to

I certainly want to contribute to this community and now that I have a dedicated Nuvi in my car I have some extra incentive to support here. This site is great !

Can custom POI's be searched on the device ?

Let's say I have all the Starbucks locations on my Nuvi (which I do and I am starting to discover that many are not accurate or just missing for my location), can I search them or set then as a "where to" point ?

Further to my Starbucks comment above, where do I submit updates or changes ? (I could probably search and find the answer smile )

Absolutely

Absolutely.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
