Viewing the poi on the garmin

Ok I am new to this so here is my question. I downloaded the restroom POI and I see it on the Garmin Nuvi 255W. Now I am going on a 200 mile ride and was wondering if those restrooms will show up on my new route. Is there anything I need to do besides create the route?

Thank you,
Rick

Alerts

Do you have alerts set up? If not, you might not even see the rest area on the screen depending on your zoom.

When you manually load onto your nuvi using POI loader you will be able to set the distance in feet. Remember that 1 mile is 5280 feet. It will alert you when you get within the set distance to the rest area.

Navigating to a POI

A similar query comes to mind: when a POI appears on my garmin to notify me that I'm within proximity of a desired location, how do I inform the Nuvi that I want to go there? Pressing the gray highlight at the top of my Nuvi screen (which contains the visual alert of my POI) yields no result.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Or, you can select the POI for the 50 closest.

Another opiton is to select the POI when you need it (under extras). This will show the 50 closest in order of distance from your current position. It also shows direction. Note that this distance is "as the crow flies", not driving distance.

.

You have to select the Custom POI location through the Custom POI menu screens on the GPS unit.

They are not selectable via the map.

Rest stops

I have found 1 1/2 miles (7920 feet or round to 8000) gives me more time to ask my wife if she needs to stop and allow me the distance to switch from the fast lane to the turn off lane.

Feet

With my wife I need 3 miles just for the bathroom.....

My wife pays attention

My wife learned to listen to the alert messages about an upcoming rest area and tells me we need to stop. I use 5000 feet and it works for us. If nothing seems to be around she'll say we need to find a stop so I usually have her punch up a McWee-wee (she likes McDonalds over most gas stations, but Truck Stops work just as well.)
