885T Speakers

I tried to use my 885T as a hands free cell phone and it sounds like junk. When I use the FM Trans coming thru my car speakers there is no problem. Is there anything that can be done about this other than using the fm transmitter. I also have a 660 and that one works just find..

Steve

Steve, the 885 is what it is. As a GPS it is fairly good. As a device for reproducing sound through its pitiful speakers, it does a real poor job. The microphone input faces down and to the back. It doesn't do noise canceling so any voice command has to override the background.

There are reports, and I will verify they are true, the amplifier for the speakers is prone to overdrive resulting in poor sound quality and distortion when run at 100%. The best help for it is to run it through your stereo just like you are doing. Personally, I'm looking for an interface to allow me to plug it in to my stereo directly allowing me to use the CD/Tape/Radio and letting the GPS override the stereo when it has something to report. I doubt I'll find exactly what I want, but a direct connection will be a big help.

What kind of car/stereo do you have?
You may want to look in to a AUX box.
I just recently did this to two of my cars that have ACDELCO MONSOON systems.
I mention my lil project here...

PIE makes AUX boxes for many different head units. You may want to look into this.
I had GREAT results with mine.

Good luck!
