bad directions.. traffic receiver responsible

Recently I had my Nuvi 680 plot me some horrible directions that told me to drive through 10 miles of city streets instead of taking the interstate because it believed this would be faster... which it definitely wasn't.

Under avoidances I have 'traffic' selected but I think it is working wrong. The gps unit told me '0:04 delay' due to traffic on the freeway but the unit seems to avoid any and all traffic even if it makes you detour. So a 4 minute delay is worse than a 45 minute delay taking side streets? I have since removed this as an avoidance until garmin fixes it. The alternate route should be calculated using the traffic delay time, not just assuming that 'this road is blocked' due to traffic. 90% of the time the regular route would still be preferred (as it should). Has anybody else run in to this issue?

Avoidance

My 660 is set to "Traffic" but will not re-route me unless the delay time is greater than the normal route would be with the delay added in. If I select re-route (for a few minutes of delay), it will tell me that it is already optomized.

You have to remember that somewhere along the traffic network there may be a delay before the Garmin is aware of the actual time of the delay. And there have been problems with the GPS displaying the actual time of the delay. My 660 always showed :01 no matter what the real delay was. Updating the Garmin with an code update fixed that.

Do you have the latest code update?

I have the newest firmware

I have the newest firmware in the gps and traffic receiver. Running CN 2010.10

I wonder if the gps sees city streets at like 45mph or something? The traffic data has proven pretty accurate but routing not so much.

I guess I will try it with the avoid traffic turned off and see how it goes.

my 255 seems to want to

my 255 seems to want to avoid highways, and i dont have it checked in preferences.

Do you have it set to

Do you have it set to fastest or shortest route?

Traffic Avoidance

I have my nuvi 760 set to avoid traffic, and it has only given me alternate routes around the traffic when it makes sense. For example, the other day it had me run through traffic for a while (about 2 miniutes), but then got me off the interstate two exits earlier than the exit it normally gives me. The actual time from both these exits normally is about the same.

To entirely avoid the traffic it would have gotten me off at 4 exits than normal, but this wouldn't have made sense b/c it would have added 10 minutes for a 4 minute delay.
