Need Addresses, Just Ask.

My choice of gasoline is Union 76. There isn't a POI file yet so I thought I'd try to tackle this one. I went to their website, which happens to be Conoco Phillips. I can punch in a zip code and they'll show me the nearest ones but I'm not able to copy the text. Plus it would pretty much be impossible to find every gas station using this method since I don't know every zip code. So I emailed them and told them I always shop Union 76. I was trying to make a Points of Interest file of their stations and was wondering if they had a text file or spreadsheet of their gas stations. A day or two later I got a reply with an Excel spreadsheet of every Conoco Phillips gas station. Cool! This is not only Union 76 but also Phillips 66 and Conoco Gas stations, even in Guam. There's almost 7000 gas stations in this file.

So if you don't feel like trying to pull the addresses from a companies website, it doesn't hurt to email them and ask if they have a spreadsheet you can use.

Cool. Union 76 happens to be

Cool. Union 76 happens to be my gas choice too. I'll wait for the POI file. Thanks.

Union 76 file

I would be interested in that POI as well... Thanks for pulling this together!

Great Info and Great Work!!!

In our area the Conoco Stations are the only ones advertising 100% gasoline.

Now and then a company amazes you....

In these days of such poor customer service, I am always amazed when a company goes beyond. Great to hear and it and looking forward to the file.

I would return the file to them

I would return the file to them in exactly the same layout with the addition of the lat/long columns as a thank you. You may also want to suggest they create/post the file as a possible CSV download much as some of the truck stop locations provide.

wow thats good to hear

wow thats good to hear

I doesn't work on all of them.

I tried that with Shell. A lot of posts regarding the results. I have been banned from even looking up a Shell Station.

I have been working on Fuel (gas) station files for several months. Slow process, but I realized that usually, for every one you find, there are one or two more on opposite sides of the street. So, I have been adding everything I find into one file which I will eventually separate by brand. Many businesses including fuel stations can be found on Google Earth under a "locate a business" function.

I have found quite a few of the stations you mentioned while doing my searches. Based on what you tell, I will be looking forward to a copy of the file and in the mean time, I will purge my files of said stations.

If you need any help on verifying locations (longitude and latitude), I will assist however I can. I usually do physical lookup, because I have found that geocoding this type of file leaves a lot to be desired. Anything in the middle of the city is usually OK, but get into the suburbs and the surrounding country, addresses get a bit stretched.

I am glad when a company decides to be of assistance rather than a hindrance. Good work on your part.

If you are doing Shell gas

If you are doing Shell gas stations, you have to include Texaco and Chevron stations. There all the same company now.

Including everything I find.

Unless there has been a recent change that I am not aware of, Texaco stations had the options of going with another brand when it was bought out. The Shell station I do business with was a Texaco. I do not know of any Texaco stations that will take a Shell card. I was surprised that the name Texaco is still out there. Obviously many of them, and yes, when I run across one of them, I include it as well as Chevron.

My primary interest in working fuel stations is to have a good idea (GPS wise) of where Diesel stations are. I drive a 3500 GMC CC dually LB and pull a 38' fifth wheel camper. With this rig, you don't drive around searching for stations that pump diesel.

As I find stations, I go out of my way to try to determine it's amenities. This information is included in my file along with the brand (third column in a CSV file). And I can tell you that it works beautifully. I tested a portion of my file out this weekend on a 120 mile trip and as soon as the alert sounded, the brand + amenities was displayed on the GPS. I love it.

Sorry about the long winded explanation, but would appreciate more information if you have it. Mean time, I will research this aspect.

Thanks again for the info.

I live in Central VA, and

I live in Central VA, and all of the Texaco stations, that stayed Texaco, are Shell affiliated. They all display the Shell Co. price reduction using the Shell Card, as do all the Chevrons.

So, I'm not sure how this has come about. I would think that since Shell owns the Texaco brand name, that either they stayed Texaco with Shell or changed the brand name, IMHO.

So I guess I can only speak for what is here locally. YMMV.

Not all companys will respond, the only one I've had much luck with was Carlos O'Kelly's. But it doesn't cost anything to try.

Chevron owns Texaco, not Shell

Went to Texaco Home Site and got information regarding the three. Shell doesn't own Texaco, Chevron does. Shell is out of the picture as of 2006 per the link below.

But isn't Shell still in the mix somewhere? Where does that leave Shell? Or is Chevron just still doing the gas discount on the Shell MasterCard?

BTW, I like the Texaco/Chevron gas with Techron. It's especially helpful in fuel injected cars as it does a pretty good job of cleaning injectors.

Evidently Shell stands alone

Phranc, What I get out of that article is that somehow, by hook or crook, Chevron did it's hocus-pocus and pulled Texaco out of the hat. Shell no longer is affiliated with it either way. Chevron has elected to retain the Texaco name as well as their own. Keeps the original Texaco customers coming back for more.

BTW, I just went online to Shell.com and clicked on station locator. I can get station locations again. This is information that is available to everyone, it just requires a lot more work.

It doesn't matter anyway, because I am adding stations to my file when ever and how ever I find them. All brands - including unbranded stations.

does anyone have the poi for phillips 66 yet?

does anyone have the poi for phillips 66 yet? can I please get it from you

the worst they can say is "NO"

I did this with Kia Canada and got very quick results the first couple of times. Unfortunately, I got no response the last time.

Either way, the worst case is the say "NO" or no response at all.

if you suggested

While you and others traverse the country and being able to locate dealerships via your GPS would be a real benefit to all their customers when they are traveling.

I just ask my 3597 to

- find place
--find Ford

And I get a list...
