Can I do this?

I have a c340, and I just updated the maps on the c340 and Mapsource on my pc to 2010.1.

No problem after I also updated the software for the c340, just a bit time-consuming.

Now I want to update my brother in law's c340.

He is not very compter competent. (after 6 years with a computer, he still can't remember how to send an email, although he can at least read his email.)

When I go to his home 60 miles away, I plan to use his pc to update his c340.

I plan to register his c340 on my Garmin account, rather than create an account for him that he will never access, or remember the password. Then I will update the software on his GPS.

Can I use the 2G file I downloaded from Garmin for my unit to update his unit? I understand that the update can only be used on one GPS, but if I FIRST buy an update for his GPS, then get a new key for his unit, can I use the file I already downloaded with his key? This could save me a lot of time, as we won't have to wait for a 2-3 hour download.

Thanks!

Keycodes can be tricky

Sometimes the keycodes are written into the download files to keep track of # of installations or to disable the install after it's run. That's how Microsoft and other software makers often keep tabs on their products. It does not always work that way so you could try what you proposed and see if it works!

Failing that you could get your brother to upgrade to DSL and download much more quickly!
