Why don't I see the Custom POI's on my nuvi 255w map?

I loaded a bunch of custom POI's from this site (ex: McDonald's locations) and the associated bmp file using the POI loader from Garmin and when I am on the road, the POI's do not show up on the map. I double checked that they are all loaded in the extras folder. Does anyone know how to get them to show up as I drive?

Have you zoomed in to 200 feet or closer in a 2D (not 3D) map mode?

you shouldn't have to be in 2d to view custom poi's.

No, I have been in 3D mode. Didn't know you had to be in 2D mode. I have to say that the owner's manual and other materials for using these devices suck pretty bad....
