Edge 205 display cracked

My wife dropped her Edge 205 yesterday and cracked the display. Is it repairable or do I just get her a new one?

i would call garmin

I would call and get a quote on repair. It may be cheaper than buying a new unit.

If it's in warranty, they

If it's in warranty, they may replace it. If not, they have a flat rare repair price, no matter what is wrong. If you have had it long enough for the warranty to expire, it may be just as cheap to replace it.

I'm just guessing here, but I think that flat rate repair price is around $150 or so, plus shipping.

What good is the map on the edge?

This unit is two years old and out of warranty. I can get a new one with a fresh battery off of eBay for $135.

I've been looking at the Edge 605 and 705 which come with a base map. I really would like the map, but not sure what the map is capable of doing. Are there POIs? What does the North American City Navigator do on an Garmin Edge that the base map does not already do?

Thank your wife

Tell your wife thanks for the favor, now this justifies purchasing that new Nuvi with voice recognition you had your eye on for a while now.

you probably accidentally on purpose bumped into her and she dropped it right?

Go ahead, the economy needs it; SPEND! SPEND! SPEND!

With only a base map, don't you have to add detailed maps for the areas you are traveling?

The Nuvis have an all inclusive map, Data base of POI and detailed routing without having to load any extra maps.

Did I mention this is a GPS for a bicycle?

Did I mention this is a GPS for a bicycle? There is no 12v power port on a bicycle. I have a Nuvi, and have ordered a bicycle mount for my Nuvi, but I don't expect the battery time to be sufficient. A base map would be better than nothing. I would like to be able to see the lay of the roads in the small town I ride though.
