OnStar Turn-by-Turn navigation

I got to experience OnStar Turn-by-Turn navigation yesterday. My new truck came with a complementary turn-by-turn navigation session and I finally got an opportunity to use it before it expired. The yearly cost is about $100/year more than the basic Safe & Sound package.

The experience was good...I contacted an OnStar advisor, gave them the address I wanted and they downloaded the directions into my system. It didn't show me a map, but it did display a graphic of each upcoming turn on the radio's VFD display...and it had a robotic voice play thru the radio for verbal direction. It allowed me to repeat an announced turn, preview the upcoming turns, and verify the address and distance to the destination.

Overall....if I didn't already have a Garmin, I would probably sign up for it, as it gave clear and accurate directions, but it lacked little things like POIs, a favorites list, and the all-loving "Home" button. It's also not transferable from one car to the next.

WINNER....GARMIN!

Yeah, it works ok, but take

Yeah, it works ok, but take a trip up or down I95 from somewhere on US 29 in VA say to Baltimore or back to Charlottesville. It will run you dead through the center of DC and ignore the Beltway.

It will get you through there, but...

Not worth the money

For the 300 bucks you can buy a new GPSr every year.
You have to have the safe and sound service before you can have directions and connections service
