Same Problem but solved

I had the same problem and I could not find a url on the back of my card after scratching off. I eventually found an faq (I think on Garmin's site) and was able to update. Worked fine but I had a heck of a time finding a url that worked for registering my lifetime subscription.

I wish I had found this link
http://www.gpsmagazine.com/2009/02/hands-on_with_garmins_num...

on the forum first and it might have saved me some time. Anyway, works great.

Someone pointed out that by

Someone pointed out that by the time "many" users really need to update the maps, in 18-24 months say, your unit could probably be replaced with a new one of the same model for about the cost of "lifetime" maps and receive the free first time upgrade.

Lifetime updates/Versus new GPS

One advantage of the lifetime updates is that you can buy a better GPS and plan on keeping it for a longer period of time. I have often wondered if it was better to buy a cheap GPS and throw it away every few years or buy a nicer GPS and update the maps. This lifetime updates seems to make it clear that updating a nice GPS could prove to be a better option

.

not for me,because my 350 has all the features i need or will use,and not that different then new models,so as long as i take care of it i'm golden

That's what I'm hoping to do with my 660. Its been discontinued but it does everything I want and seems stable. I plan on keeping it a long time so I went ahead and bought the lifetime maps. grin

Now, watch the thing die on me. sad

Registered unit to get discount code?

I had an interesting experience when upgrading the map on my wife's unit. I logged on to my account and purchased the map file. I then downloaded and commenced the installation. The software told me I could not proceed since the unit was registered to someone else. This left me with a map file, but unable to load the unit. I then went in to my wife's account, removed the registration, returned to my account and registered the unit. I then got a code for 10% off at the Garmin store, and managed to load the map.
Needless to say I'll use the code for my map update, and will try to move my wife's unit back to her account, maybe we'll get another 10% off code.
