Easy GPS

Anybody out there using Easy GPS with your Garmin?

I was looking for a way to back up my favorites and it seems to be able to fetch them from the GPS, let me modify them, and then put my updates back onto the GPS. It also seems to be able to merge in gpx files.

I appear to be feature limited by my GPS (Streetpilot C330), and only the waypoints features seem to work with my unit. But there are some other options that might work if I had a better GPS.

Not yet, but

I will give it a try in the next couple of days.

EasyGPS

EasyGPS is a great program, I've been using it for a number of years. The same guy also has ExpertGPS which has more options but it's not a freebie.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

What is it?

I have never heard of EasyGPS. What does it do?

MapSource

Did your C330 come with MapSource? If so, that's a Garmin solution that will allow you to backup Waypoints, edit or create them and move a fresh copy to the GPSr. It will also create and save Routes and let you work with the Trip Log and manage your maps if needed. I've heard of EasyGPS but have never used it. It appears from their website that it should do what you want.

From their website, "EasyGPS is the fast and easy way to transfer waypoints, routes, and tracks between your computer and your Garmin, Magellan, or Lowrance GPS. EasyGPS lists all of your waypoints on the left side of the screen, and shows a plot of your GPS data on the right. Use EasyGPS to back up and organize your GPS data, print maps, or load new waypoints onto your GPS for your next hike or geocaching adventure.

EasyGPS works with every popular handheld GPS receiver, and it is 100% FREE!"

Mapsrouce backing up favorites

No I have not yet tried Mapsource yet. I have a 2010 update ordered from Amazon. When it comes in, I'll check to see if Mapsource can back up my favorites as well as EasyGPS.

GPSUtility

I use GPSUtility. I have used it to make basic maps as well as manipulating favorites. It does not interface with Google earth etc for getting backgrounds but it does allow scanned files to be used as the background. If someone is interested I can show some of what I have done. Most of what I have used to for is with a handheld GPS76CSx.

GPS

Sounds like a great program...I will give it a try.

EasyGPS

I'm not clear about how this works. Does it link to Google earth or google Maps or something.

The website is not very informative about how it works.
