wow

The MSN Direct GDB 50 receiver alone retails for $119.99 so this is pretty much like getting the GPS and all it's mounting accessories plus the installed maps, plus the nuMaps Guarantee for $80 for free. True, the retail GDB 50 comes with a one year subscription vs. the 780 package's 3 month subscription but this is a steal of a deal. Jump on it people!

REEEEEALY Wish I had waited...

I bought my Magellan Maestro 4350 a few weeks ago on this same type of deal through Amazon... I wish I had waited and bought the nuvi 780!!!

Oh well... you know what they say about hindsight..

If you keep waiting, you'll

If you keep waiting, you'll never buy one. That's me. I'm not an early adopter. Always wait for price to drop. When it does, there's a new one with better design, features etc. Another wait... smile

It's interesting to see how some retailers try to convince us by showing how much money we save. Amazon saving:
You Save: $500.00 (71%)

Whoaaa... where did they get the number from? Garmin MSRP is only $599.99 and that was at least 2 years ago.

Sounds like a great deal -

Sounds like a great deal - but I think I'll have to be happy with my 755T which comes with the free traffic. I did kind of want the Bluetooth on the 765T which has dropped from $390 - $345 recently. (Got the 755T for $325 a couple weeks ago.) But seeing some of the problems people have had with the 765T I will probably stick with the 755T which hasn't had any problems (yet?) It will get it's first real workout on my 7 hour drive this weekend! Still that 780 is a tempting deal!

I saw this

I got an email from Amazon.com about this deal. I think we all know why these units are gettting so cheap. they are the older models. the newer models have the Lane Assist on them. Why Garmin cant put out a software update the encorperates this Lane Assist feature on the older models is beyond me!!!!!!! really ticks me off. I have the 350 and 750 and neither have the lane assist. i spent $400 for each of those. now Garmin wants me to drop another 400 for a new model just for a single feature.

i see their ploy now.

It cheaps because it is an old technology...

Good to buy if you are the first time user...

Still a great unit...

I agree... but will also add I think it is a great deal all the way around. It may be older technology and maybe Amazon is just offloading some of their stock... but anyone who buys one of these is not only getting a great deal... but a great unit.

fantastic deal...I went for it!

Me Too

I was about to buy the 760, when I got the e-mail from amazon about the 780. This is my first GPS unit. I read so many reviews and compared so many different models. If this unit is half as good as what people say, then I got a good deal. Anybody have any suggestions as to what I should do first with my new toy?

First Things First...

The first thing I would do... and I have done with all my units... is load the Garmin updater on your PC and check for and install any updates. It will also tell you if you are eligible for a map update.

THEN... go play!!!! grin grin

Thanks!

I discovered this site yesterday, and I'm already impressed with the amount of information, as well as links to other good sites. This is one of the most useful sites on the net.

Price change

It is now $216 w/free shipping. Still a great deal and it's a GARMIN. You can't go wrong.

The Garmin nuvi 780 - $199.99.....

I buy from Amazon re-sellers all the time. I haven't had any more (or less) problems with them than I've had with any other internet vendors.

Recently I came to know that there is a website named AmazingWatcher.Com which is a free website that will “watch” items for you on Amazon and let you know when amazon has them in stock at regular retail price. It got so awesome!
Good luck everybody!
