Downloading Sounds

Thanks to everyone's help I am now downloading and using POIs. Now I'm trying to figure out how to use sounds.
Is there a link somewhere which provides the "how to" for sounds?

Couple of questions:

I have a 255W.

Will sounds only work if I have downloaded the associated POI, for example, I see a sound for Arby's; if I have not downloaded the POI for Arby's will I still get the alert?

Will the sounds work for the custom points of interest? For example, there is an alert sound for 24 Hour Pharmacy; will I hear that alert for any POI?

Thanks for your help

Your unit can not play mp3

Your unit can not play mp3 files but you can use wav files to get the voice alerts. You are correct they have to be name the same as the csv file except for the extensions. Here is the set up for wav files.

a. Download the latest PoiLoader file at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
b. Download Sox Exe at http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip .
c. After un-zipping Sox Exe file place it in your Garmin folder where the PoiLoader exe file is located on the computer.
d. The wav file for alerts will be named the same as the CSV or GPX file except for the extensions.
e. You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say or use a program to convert mp3 files to wav. When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono. Wav files are also on site for download.
Select manual mode on poiloader to set speed or distance for alert.
Edit. Using your example.

Arby's.csv
Arby's.wav

Sound Files

To build on CharlesD45's instructions, you can download several free programs from the Internet that will convert MP3 files to WAV files. Using one of these programs such as AUDACITY you can convert any of the MP3 sound files from this web site to WAV for use with your Nuvi.

Thank you

Thanks for the info

I think I unzipped

I have Vista. I right clicked on the file and selected Extract All and chose the same folder that has the POI Loader (c:\Garmin). There was only one file created. I guess I was expecting more.

Just One File

Only one file inside - sox.exe

It was zipped just to make the downloading of it as small as possible for users with slow internet connections.
